Why Playfish Sold Itself to EA

In some of his first public comments since the deal was announced, Kristian Segerstrale, president and general manager of Playfish, says Playfish was making a proactive move in a market that he believes will change quickly into one where well-known brands will have an advantage.

By joining EA, Playfish would be in a position to take advantage of that trend, he says.

"Social gaming as an industry has grown pretty quickly, but it also means it has to grow up pretty quickly," says Mr. Segerstrale, adding that there will be a social game based on a well-known EA brand this year. "I think we're going to see it rapid maturing over the next 12 to 24 months."
