How Windows 8 will take on Chrome and Android

In this interview with ZDNet UK, Steven Sinofsky, president, Windows and Windows Live Division, managed to be as elusive as possible. For example, to the question whether Microsoft will be able to top Windows 7 with Windows 8, Sinofsky stated "There's no answer to that. That's what we do, and that's the work we're going to do. It's the balance between solving problems and innovation."

Yeah aim for chrome, you wouldn't want to aim to high (ie; Firefox, Safari).

When your OS is #1 you don't aim down, you aim up.

And Firefox, Safari, etc weren't OS's, even then, Microsoft still has majority market share for web browsers, and they are definitely doing a lot of cool stuff to try and keep it that way albeit there is room for improvement.

Why can't we live in a world where operating systems are released at ten year intervals?

Do I really want to have to start thinking about Windows 8 when I'm barely going to get a laptop with Windows 7?

With the ability to send software updates and service packs over an internet connection, we no longer should have to buy a new OS.

Unless you're MS. Then you let your product standards degrade to the point an OS is bloated crap, and then you make improvements to the next.

Because MS controls the market and needs money?

Though I think 4-6 year cycles would be better. That way you could expect actual improvements, not just cosmetic ones.

I too would like some time to enjoy my OSes too. I suppose we could just buy every other version of Windows instead of upgrading each time MS gets a new idea.

Because with 7 they were just too shortsighted to see Android & Chrome coming.

Because this crap is never going to end, one thing comes out then 4 months later Surprise Buttsecks, your new so call hardware is worth jack & outdated, welcome to the real world PC fanboys when suckers get played hard & you guys are the suckers.

i'm way happy on Console since they last & *PLAY VIDEO GAMES* when PC oh wait in order to play that game i need a DX 11 card then next year DX 12 & so on.

I don't see it that way. If your happy with 360/PS3 multi-plat graphics, then you wouldn't need to keep upgrading right? Old cards can run alot smoother with the same settings easy.

This doesn't include you if you like to keep up with top graphics like Crysis and new technical powerhouse dx11 games :P
