Mass Effect 2: Better quality with downsampling at 6400 x 3600 pixels

These pictures of Mass Effect 2 have been taken at a downsampled resolution of 6400 x 3600. The downsampling effect results in a better visual quality (because of an effect similar to anti-aliasing), but also needs a lot of recourses since the system has to calculate much more information.

And it looks amazing already. I don't know about running it in downsampled mode, due to fps drops. But I wish it had some AA built in the game.

spandexxking5196d ago

i have an Nvidia card and force AA in the control panel, im assuming you can do the same for ATI cards in the control catalyst or whatever its called.

GrilledCheeseBook5196d ago

what kind of rig would you need for this?
I got:
AMD Phenom II x4 925 stock 2.8 GHz
Diamond ATI 5770 940/1380
4GB DDR3 1333 Patriot
1920x1080 monitor
would this be enough?

SIX5196d ago

More than enough. My graphics card is a GTS 250 (not as good as yours) and I run everything on Max. Well my CPU is more powerful though. I have a Phenom II x4 955 black @ 3.2 GHz. I still think your system would out perform mine due to superior GPU. Go for it. The game is Boss.

Not to whole-heartedly belittle you here, but a simple Google search for System Requirements would have answered your question much faster... And make you NOT look like a n00b.

From BioWare.com; Minimum requirements:

Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory = 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Graphics = ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or better recommended

But with a beefy setup like you have... I think you're just trying to be cute.

[Though, personally I'd recommend a PC monitor with at least 1920x1200WUXGA, but yours get the job done.]

namyrb5196d ago

Im pretty sure he was asking if his rig could handle the downsampling and still play the game at a decent fps. Im actually curious as well - I have no idea...

ChrisW5196d ago

Yeah, I kinda thought about that after I posted it.

And I, as well, am curious as to what's need for downsampling.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
