Gamespot: Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC Hands-On

Gamespot writes: "While the original Battlefield: Bad Company may have been a console exclusive, the sequel looks set to shine on the PC. During our visit to developer Dice in Sweden, we talked to a dedicated PC team whose job it is to make this the definitive version, thanks to improvements such as 32-player multiplayer (compared to 24 on the consoles), a menu system customised for mouse and keyboard, and support for 3D using Nvidia technology. Even better, we got to put all of these features to the test thanks to an exclusive hands-on."

Wow, that just got me excited, hopefully ATI's 3D setup comes out sooner than later, catalyst 10.1 offers some preliminary stuff.

"The sense of immersion was great, as long as you get past marveling at the scenery and actually start shooting things."

Sounds like DICE went ALL OUT with the PC version, their fan base is exceptionally large, good to see they didn't pull an IW.

TheIneffableBob3240d ago

Not quite all out since the maps are still designed to run on consoles (that's why the max player count is 32 instead of 64) but DICE did do a lot to make this game take advantage of the PC's strengths.

Yeah, well, except for the SecureROM crap and 32 player limit.
Otherwise, the Pc version is looking very nice.

TheIneffableBob3240d ago

If you read the SecuROM conditions, it's actually very lenient and gives the user many options (at least compared to other kinds of DRM methods). If you opt for the disc check you don't even have to do online activation. And you can have the game installed on 10 different computers at the same time. If you want to install the game on an 11th, you'll just have to deactivate one of the 10, either by uninstalling the game or by using a revoke tool.

Dice did go all for the PC because they respect their PC base un like some other crapware company (MW2).

This is what PC gaming is all about. 3D, 3 monitor support, Directx 10 and 11 and much more. the graphics are brilliant. The game play is real fast, strategic, and NOT FOR No0bs.

Can't wait to see screenshots of a "PC build" version vs. the console version.

PC gamers know The Goods from The Crap. Dice respects PC gamers and The PC version is going to sell Millions using Steam or Direct 2 Drive.

Digital Distribution saves gas and the environment.

SilentNegotiator3240d ago (Edited 3240d ago )

DRM is still DRM. Lenient compared to other forms or not, the idea of restricting the number of installs is disgusting, especially if the disc check is already being used anyway.

When I purchase a product, I don't grant the seller the ability to tell me how to use it. It isn't their property anymore.

And what it comes down to is that any DRM is just an annoyance and form of control over real customers, and a joke to pirates.

"Our demo took place across Dice's local network, which allowed us to experience the PC's 32 player limit, which is six players more than the consoles' 24 player count. The six extra players may not sound like a huge increase."

Umm, according to my maths, it is 8 players more not six. hehe.

Mista T3240d ago

lol that's funny. these guys code games and they make a basic math mistake :P

Setekh3240d ago

@ Mista T

It's basic maths mistakes like that which end up causing some of the most annoying glitches and bugs in games half the time.

Doesn't exactly inspire confidence now does it.

dirthurts3240d ago

ATi_Elite3240d ago

I'm so excited about this game!! I got my money ready right here.

Great interview I especially loved the part when he said this is a "PC SPECIFIC" build Directx 10 and 11, PC scalability, 3d, 3 monitor setup support, oh and don't forget Dedicated servers with 32 players instead of the console's 24.

The graphics are amazing. This will be the FPS of the year. good job DICE.
