A few things I've noticed in the first picture.

1. The red reticle seems to be off centre. Or does it belong to something else?
2. Under the Skirmisher on the left there is a pixilated section, what's that hiding?

Judging by the screen's native resolution looks like it's gonna be sub-HD just like Halo3 & ODST, that's a shame. So much for a new never-before-seen-effects engine.

Speaking of premature.
Theres no way you can tell what the game's its resolution will be, from a screenshot.

And even if it would be only 720P (which all ps3 games are as well with maybe 2 or so exceptions).
Its still gonna rock the gaming world.

@the general
Oh plz, your full of it, while i agree those uncharted 2 and killzone 2 screenshots going around look amazing, the actual games itself in motion look nowhere near as good as the shots, and i played those damn games in full HD recently at a friends place who owns a ps3.

Mass effect 2 stomps all over those so called graphically glorious games of yours, and that game runs without a single hick/tear or skip.

"only" 720p?

Bungie's previous 360 efforts have sub-720p. If this manages to be native 720p then that will be major advancement for the 360 since it will manage to match the basic PS3 standard.

Bungie may just be the company to do that particularly if they're genuinely re-writing the engine.

From this screenshot though - well no one can really say anything...

r.

Foxgod3072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

No it would not, because theres plenty of 360 games that run 720P.
Halo is not the definition of what the 360 can do graphically, Halo is simply the definition of perfect gameplay.

hay3072d ago

Looks nice, reminds me of Half Life 2 graphics(which I really like).

Selective blindness must come in handy for you...

And yes, these games look THIS good in motion.

Now compare them with these:

The PC version of Mass Effect 2 is also included. Notice all the jaggies and low resolution textures? The games look graphically-wise a generation apart, especially Halo Reach which seems to be a whole generation behind...

@foxgod below:

I'm not sure why I even bother...
Dude THIS IS how both games look, like it or not, and I'm playing both games on a Optoma HD82 projector at 120 inches. If you cant see a difference between this

and this

http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3...

you should go and have your eyes checked...

Foxgod3072d ago

I already told you i saw and played these games at a friends place with my own neutral judgements, and i already told you those shots look better then those games in motion.

Theres zero difference between ps3 and 360 gfx.
When i crank up my I7 on full settings, then i do see a difference between its gfx and those of the ps3/360.

But when you compare the latter two to each other, zero difference, all those graphical claims of the ps3 are nothing more then hot air of stupid fanboys who like to live in a dellusional world, instead of reality.

SilentNegotiator3072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

....is 1024x576.

That's a darn shame, I thought it was going to be HD this time.
Looks like there might be some AA this time around, though.

Dnied3072d ago

Since there will never be a way to convince you that you're the delusional one, there's no point in arguing with you.

All I'm going to say is the fact that you honestly think those screenshots are incredible and nowhere near what the game looks like when you're playing it, is only a compliment.

Those graphics are exactly what the game looks like, considering Naughty Dog used the in-game engine for every single video / screenshot published. That is exactly what the game is so atleast you're not blind i suppose. GG used CG for some scenes but it's very clear where because the quality is about the same as Square's when it comes to CG. everything else is in game.

hmmm see what I did there. I posted in game/gmaeplay shots of one game and compared them to high quality PR/ cinematic shots from the other game to show the difference in graphics. UC2 and K2 look great and are great games. Don't try to take away from a game that isn't even out yet/ with very little info released about it and compare it to finished products. Wait for the game to come out then bash it all you want because at least then, the people who would be willing to defend it have something to back up besides tiny compressed screen shots that show pre-alpha build of a game.

kewlkat0073072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

Then again, graphic does not make a game sell crazy or does it equal quality. When looking at games Visually, you'll alwyas have these tit for tat arguments where it really goes nowhere.

-my rig/set vs yours
-my eyes vs yours
-do you see what I see

Obviously Halo was never a Graphics behemoth when you take account the type of game it is and it's art direction. It's not the same style as Uncharted/Gears/KZ2/MW...etc Screenshots to me are meh..Most do not sit there and play screen shots. If they look good then they look good. It has no bearings on "Gameplay".

I understand it's more of a pissin war when it comes to graphics regardless of gameplay, replay value and mass appeal but in the end, some gamers will talk with thier wallets instead of their mouths.

FragMnTagM3072d ago

Vasilisk, you are the one that needs their eyes checked. Catguy owned you so bad, you should just be quiet from now on.

I own a PS3 along with Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 and know for a fact those shots you posted were bull shots. I have my PS3 hooked up to a 61" 1080p dlp Samsung and know that Killzone 2 and Uncharted, while great looking, do not look that good as the PR shots you posted. Please give it a rest already. If you do not like Halo, why the hell are you always in the articles?

thewhoopimen3072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

I think you missed some of the salient points of this discussion. While I'm sure you understood catguy's point of the FAIL with regards to comparing PR shots to poor in-game.

The fact of the matter is UC2 is still a far better looking game than Reach (as it is in alpha right now) or ME2. In fact, given that catguy used multiplayer shots of UC2, to compare to single player campaign shots in ME2 from the PC version, this prove just how difficult it is to mask the differences.

Single player LOD for Drake in UC2 run around 34k-37 polys with Chloe at an all time high of 45+k. ME2 polys in single campaign are running between 20-25k. UC2's multiplayer is where LOD is dropped in the 20-25k range... whereby you could actually "compare" that with ME2. However, as I mentioned before, ME2's texture work is very impressive.

Addendum: Maybe you should switch to a plasma or LCD and retake another gander. DLP is ... kind of last gen. UC2 single player campaign looks like the PR shots. Now back to life.

BlackAvenger73072d ago

Actually Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 screens look really "UGLY" compared to in-game motion, maybe ur frind's HDTV is not calibrated well.. make sure to set sharpness around 20(in a scale from 0-100) and turn off edge enhancement.. also make sure that color isn't set too high nor too low(try to set it as realistic as possible)

On topic: Didn't care about Halo:ODST but this one looks GOOD!

Xi3072d ago

I collected these images from PSU, playstation universe.

anyone can find poor screenshots of a game, if you're not interested in halo reach, then don't post in the article.

I like it. Looks a lot darker than Halo 3 and ODST. Niiice

awesomeperson3072d ago

Were these released before or different ones?

Hey, and congratulations, with these new graphics that are meant to blow us away, I see the guns have more dents in them! I see bungie have been putting their time to use...

Ownejj3072d ago (Edited 3072d ago )

this game is going to be amazing, any1 who thinks differently is either
1) a ps3 spastic
2) is mentaly ill

i guess the 2 go hand in hand realy

iron_sheik3072d ago

anyone who thinks different is an x360 fanboy
days of lame bungie jumping are over and this is why ODST flopped in reviews. REACH with outdated graphics and gameplay will meet the same fate

chidori6663072d ago

"these new graphics"

are you in crack?? looks the same old graphics IMO.

DARK WITNESS3072d ago

very nice, very very nice !

I am really getting excited about this game.
