The Best Innovation of This Generation

Nick DiMola of writes: "This console generation is one of many innovations, most notably motion controls... or so you would think.

Upon closer inspection, something far more notable and widespread has been introduced this generation. I speak, of course, about downloadable games and their associated services."

The story is too old to be commented.

IMO the most original game of this game is supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars :D

haha i love that game. But I do confess at sucking at it.
I put alot of time into the demo >.<

If i were to pick two things this gen that really stuck out to me.. it'd be:
1) Demons Souls Online system.. simple yet very effective.

2) OnLive.. it sounds awesome in theory. So i wanna see how it works.

I've never been a fan of motion gaming (unless its at an arcade).
The only time I'll ever 'wow' at something, it'd be when virtual reality kicks in.. No need for gaming 'controllers.'

But, alas... maybe in a few decades when I'm too old to get up and move lol

Just look at Sony and what they're doing. Their games, their features, what they offer. They're innovating as the gen continues to roll by. MS did a good job with Online (building on what Sega started), but that's about it. Other than that, I'd say Sony has been the most innovative this gen.

Wii came out with Motion Controls back in 06..and its competitors are coming out with Motion Controls for 2010...I have no idea.

Guess you never heard of the power glove.;)

Yup, that's where pointer controls came from, not gesture contols. Nintendo was a big part of light-gun games as well, Duck Hunt?

Nintendo didn't invent them though, these things go further back than you'd ever expect. I don't think there's many innovative things in gaming now because a similar idea is bound to have been attempted before.

hatchimatchi3220d ago (Edited 3220d ago )

nintendo had absolutely nothing to do with the power glove. It was mattel who made it.

SpoonyRedMage3220d ago

Correct there Hatchi although it was based on another (unsuccessful) glove that one of th designers had worked on it with Nintendo. Again though, it's a concept that goes back even further than that.

with it's success. Really, even I crapped on Nintendo.

All the other consoles are the same with better hardware. I suppose I'd put BD up there though, since it has been a Sony trademark with every console.

Graphics to me, is not innovative. If you get better hardware I expect better graphics. It's something that continues to improve with better hardware every generation so I expect it.

which goes back to my original point. Plus since hardware is always changing PC's can already outdo a console without 3 months after it comes out.
Visually speaking and some of the technical workings that makes a game look good on a console is always lagging behind in real-time on a PC platform.

most of the stuff is old just because consoles now have better hardware and online dont act like these things never existed before thats a slap and the devs face that did these things before and these suppose to be gaming websites i thought they suppose to be informing us to things we didnt seem like they mostly lie now. and good for the the devs thats trying new or old things that pushing the bar and love what they re doing.
