The Power Behind Wake: vista exclusive

YouGamers: So - last two questions, we promise! The biggest things with PCs at the moment are Windows Vista and DirectX 10. Anything special for DX10?

Mäki: [puts on a formal-sounding voice] We haven't announced anything for DX10 yet…

YouGamers: Just to confirm things then, the PC version is only for Windows Vista and not for XP machines…

Järvilehto: That's correct - the game is Vista exclusive (Alan Wake, PC)

This was a smart move on M$'s part IMO.

even people with good enough computers...would now not only have to buy directX 10 compatible cards (which is still acceptable because better tech)....but also Vista (which is unacceptable) ..

i hope someone really screw up windows (google counting on you)..those greedy bastards

So is Remedy now Microsofts second party?
kewlkat007  +   3089d ago
Yeah I think it was the right move
by Microsoft. I'm sure they want to push DX10 and Vista by making some of these games Exclusive to just the Vista OS. If you want the better Experience then your gonna have to own a Vista DX10 enabled machine as Järvilehto states, "The PC version will definitely be scalable - that means every PC experience will be a bit different depending on your setup, whereas the 360 is a fixed platform."

1. Also it seems like developers studio "Remedy" is ready to move on with multi-threaded/multi-cored environment, as he states if you are not ready to move on, even if it might require extra work then you have no business.

a. "Mäki: I think it's of course a lot more work but I think it's just stuff you need to handle if you want to stay in this business - it's "business as usual" creating a multithreaded engine nowadays. It's just like a leap from C to C++, it's like…

b. Mäki: Yeah and if you can't take that leap, then you have no business being on the leading edge of game development, really."

2. So yeah, if you can't program for the 360/PS3 and not willing to make the leap, given you have the money and resources, then it's time to leave the business...hehe

3. This game looks amazing...some of the lighting in there is ridiculous. Man I ned to upgrade my RIG, of course it's great, I have the option of getting the 360 version. In due time.

Vista exclusive, or...
Vista and 360?
kewlkat007  +   3089d ago
Boot read the Article
you would see that, they mean, VISTA exclusive, as you will not be able to play this on XP. Either way you will need a new RIG to play this game and either way, it has MS written all over it.

WOW talking about desperate attempts to sell on the un finished Vista, don’t worry MS I will upgrade to Vista...when you actually finish it! like maybe in 2-3 service packs, till then the 360 will do the trick :P

I wonder which other game will MS sacrifice to promote Vista?

ALthough i've dual booting xp/vista machine but i hardly use vista. My pc is a humble 2gig dual core E6600 running @ 3.4ghz. My vga is not dx 10 compatible, although it was a high end one last year, a single SLI 1GB 7950GX2. Noway i'm chuking it out to buy another vga card for one year. I'm glad i hv my 360 for games like these.

I would suggest buying 360 instead of vista os, which would be slightly more expensive but then you wouldn't need to buy additional ram or new vga card.

Well to actually PLAY this game on a PC you will need to buy a new one... and those are all with Vista so no problem there I guess.
