Dead Achievements

Sega's mech sim Chromehounds is set to close today, so what does this mean to those who have it sitting on their profile incomplete? GamerZines investigates and debates whether dead achievements are on the rise. (Chromehounds, Xbox 360)

Online achievements suck.I can't count the games i do not play online because nobody is playing the game (you can't buy every game on release)or (like chromehounds)the servers r dead.

Not to mention how easily it is to glitch and add 15k a day to your score.

They mean nothing.

Unlocking Achievements in a title update is the most idiotic thing I ever heard there is better ways to fix dead achievements like changing how you get them.

if servers go down permently theres no way to get them or if a ocmpany doesnt patch broken functions theres n oway to get them

giving the proken or nolonger atainable ones by a title update is reasonable, it gives a sort of satisfaction for finishing it off even if it leaves a slightly bitter taste.

changing the way online achivments are gotte is a good idea and companys needs to consider before putting rediculous ones in

What I meant if there is an achievement thats says: Kill 10 players in single ranked multiplayer match, they could change it to Kill 10 players in a single local multiplayer match.

I like how Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 have little to no online trophies/achievements. People should play online because they like it not because they are trying to "complete" a game. I'm not a fan of when a game has more then 300 points devoted to online unless it doesn't have any other mode.

Agreed Zornik & Tyrok3k
I hate them as well, I enjoy maxing my games and having a nice 1000/1000 or whatever, and nothing should be unachievable in your game that you paid for. People boosting and stuff online helping each other get achievements and the like is utter balls and destroys the game for genuine players that maybe dont even care about achievements. Definitely should stick to just having them in single player if possible.

I'm also against online achievements, there are many other ways to reward a player in multiplayer, like what the CoD series has done as of late. I really used to like getting achievements, and I still do for that matter, but I find things like online achievements which are impossible to get at times, due to lack of players, frustrating (or sometimes they unlock because no one is playing?). And you also end up in the situation where they shut down the servers, and you end up with dead games.

I've always felt that achievements should be restricted to single player only, and a different rewards system set up for online play. But, overall I think Microsoft's achievement system is flawed. Fun, but flawed, as there is no weighting which games are more difficult to earn points in and the like. 1000 gamerscore from a difficult game and 1000 gamerscore from Naruto or something like that are worth the same.

Thus, while I still enjoy getting achievements, I no longer make it a priority choice when I purchase games (and thus, most purchases as of late have become PC purchases due to better graphics, framerates and controller options). I hope Microsoft can find a way to reinvigorate their achievement system in the future. Providing title updates with an alternate achievement list is definitely an option, but at the end of the day I don't really care.
