Capcom Vice President, Christian Svensson, answered a few questions on the Unity Boards about a potential re-release of Street Fighter 3 Third Strike and he also covered one other question that came up.
I already have Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Street Fighter II. They can release whatever they want and I will not care unless it is Marvel vs Capcom 3!
MvC2 was already re-released and did well. I guess this and SNK vs Capcom is next to appear on PSN and XBL
third strike is my all time best fighting game, I would love to see a rerelease.
No love for Capcom vs. SNK 2? Damn it to hell, the most underrated fighting game ever. It should of been re-released over Marvel vs Capcom 2, but they had to please the cry babies. :P
not much from me . CvSNk 2 (and the first) are good for the roster and different options , but i'd always rather play a true kof or vanilla sf 2-3 or at most the alpha series . Especially when every kof till well XII , always had a gigenatic list of characters . It was always one of the early attempt to blend 3d backgrounds and special effects with 2d sprites , and i can't say i ever liked the results . The backgrounds werent importants , but the fireballs and move sfx always threw me off . Add also the fact that most sprites werent redrawn , but ripped straight from various games of various eras , making some characters like morrigan (sprite from 95...) really iffy when mixed with the others and the 3d . I wont mention balance issues , since it's always there is every fighting franchise anyway , to various degrees . It's still a good , great even game , but i had imo prettier and better available . Anyway i doubt they could release the two games without some severe rehauling , and without new snk licenses negotiations .
Capcom vs SNK is part of the Alpha series ...
No it isnt . It's another serie of spin off . It features characters in different versions and era anyway (hell in a very few cases various versions of a same character) , so it wouldnt be possible .
What I meant to say is: "The overall system is derivative of Street Fighter Alpha."
i too would rather see cvs2 over mvc2, even though it had many issues, it was one of the best fighters ever made.
from what i remember with the groove system choice C A P and S N and K, the alpha gameplay was only one or two of the 6 styles available . But yeah i get your point
YES PLEASE x 100000000000000000000000000000 0000000000
Not surprised here . It was less popular , except with the hardcore fans , so bound to be low on the SF ans SF crossover priority . THe good/bad is that like MVC2 it will probably "only" be upscaled and with online and trophies . But then again good , because SF3 is the absolute pinnacle of 2d animation in fighting games . Other may look more hd or better , but none are as detailled and as well animated .. so with upscale you still got a winner .
the animation in sf3s is amazing. i hope they have that bad boy running at 60fps this time around.
if they would bring the fighting system to next gen (make it even better) i think it'd be the best street fighter yet. add every street fighter character to date too.
The market for it is probably too small - especially given that the stronger titles in the series are already out there and playable. And Capcom are just wary of SF3 stuff in general. It panned out so badly for them at the time, and each iteration was a horrible (if very pretty) mess.
doubt any market is too small as a xbla/psn titles . Especially when the game is already done , and with only the cost of adding an online code they already used with various titles , and upscale filters . It just wasnt a priority compared to sf2 and mvc imo . And they probably didnt expect so many people wanting SF3 back so badly , especially when must of the people clamoring for it , didnt bother buying the game back in the day . A huge part of SF3's current popularity comes from emulation and people who discovered the title through legendary and epic SF3 tournaments videos . There is definitively a market for it now .
IMO there isn't much demand for SF3. it may have grown a teensy weensy bit from the arrival of SF4, but not enough to appeal to the broader audience. SSF2HDR had appeal because of the graphics overhaul and it had RE BALANCING. MvC2 had appeal because you couldn't find a copy for less than 100$ and it had a license even bigger than street fighter behind it, Marvel. SF3 has none of these things going for it. The masses would say, huh? they made a 3? capcom said themselves that CvS2 would not profit enough for the work, so I wouldn't bet on SF3 re release.
wich is why i mentioned that most people asking for it only know the games because of a emulation and videos . Only capcom would tell if it's worth it anyway . MY bet is still that they felt it wouldnt be worth it , hell they didnt bother with adding sf3 chracters to sf4 . However with the various remixes , and SF4 , and often in forms of complaints about SF4 ... suddenly out of the woods and thin air , SF3 fan appears . Hence sf3 characters added to the next sf4 title , and sf3 being considered on digital stores . CVS2 is different , it isnt worth it to capcom , because of the massive works it might require (sorry but 95 sprites mixing it with 2003 ones wont have much charm with many folks) , but most of all because it require snk games licences . MVC2 too , but Marvel appeals to lots of folks . SNK only fighting fans , and not even all of them . My other bet is that SF3 "hd upscale remix" will happens if SSF4 , featuring various sf3 characters among other things , sells well .
I hope the do re-release street fighter 3 with online play.
Seriously... I have 2 or 3 versions of the game...
no matter how many times its been release!!! i want a psp version!!!
@Enigma_2099 But only the dreamcast versions (and the same included in the xbox Street Fighter Anniversary Collection ) were worth playing . And only the one included in the anniversary had online so , it's hardly as if overdone . It had indeed at least 3 revisions , but most people didnt own a dreamcast ... nor a xbox
... thinking online play makes everything better.
There all fkn the same to me with extra characters . capcom must think the gaming community is stupid .
Now that COdy is in SSFIV, all I wants is Q and some SF EX characters in the next SF4 version. Thanks Capcom. :)
