There is an upside and a downside when it comes to video game franchises. On the upside, title familiarity (even if the similarity is in the game's title alone) helps sales. One the downside, new games in a franchise are subject to pre-assumed expectations. Games that carry the Final Fantasy moniker are no different and tend to suffer from the latter just as much as the benefit from the former. Square-Enix's newly-released edition of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, dubbed The Crystal Bearers, for the Nintendo Wii tries to hold itself up to the high standards that accompany the Final Fantasy brand but fall just short.
