Jordan Mechner created two of the more beloved side-scrollers on the PC some 20 years ago: Karateka and Prince of Persia. While the former never blossomed into a franchise, the latter spawned a number of sequels. Both titles cemented Mechner as a pioneer.
With the original Prince of Persia given new life on Xbox Live Arcade this week, IGN tracked down Jordan Mechner to talk about the history of the franchise. The original King of POP explained his inspiration for Prince of Persia and gave his thoughts on 2D vs. 3D gaming. Mechner even hinted a return to creating side-scrolling games.
