PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has recently set its crosshairs on Canada's annual tradition of hunting baby seals. The Flash game has players control a baby seal around hunters with clubs as it slides down a hill.
I wonder if we get to play the hunters?
Run little one RUN!!!
Now, just give me guns and some semtex and I should be good, hehe. :P
When you sled right into the clubbers, nothing happens! Now, if it had been like Bloody Pingu, that would be happening. It's not seals, but clubbing penguins can be fun to! http://www.smgamers.com/?p=... Seriously though. The seal population has been increasing since the 70's and the hunt has long been monitored. Even the "clubbing" has been ruled on by the Canadian humane agencies consulting with vets on behalf of the International Fund for Animal Welfare. They had recommendations on how the hunt could be more humane but found no problem with the actual "clubbing" act itself "The hakapik is an efficient tool designed to kill the animal quickly and humanely." Even the World Wildlife Fund did a study in 2005 and found "Perception of the seal hunt seems to be based largely on emotion, and on visual images that are often difficult even for experienced observers to interpret with certainty. While a hakapik strike on the skull of a seal appears brutal, it is humane if it achieves rapid, irreversible loss of consciousness leading to death." What people don't like is the thought of something cute being killed, or for the image of the blood on the stark white ice. If there were white sheets down on the slaughter house floor anywhere it'd probably shock most people. PETA just doesn't like the fact that wildlife agencies who monitor the hunt don't back them up like they'd like, so they go after the impressionable children with flash games like this. It sickens me that a group like PETA would target their propaganda at our children.
"The organization has been criticized for the style and content of its campaigns, and for the number of animals it euthanizes. It was also criticized in 2005 by Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, who said it had acted as a "spokesgroup" for the Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front, after those groups were listed in a draft planning document as domestic terrorist threats by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security." IN OTHER WORDS: PETA condones "domestic terrorism!"
PETA cares more about animals than their own brethren. Screw them.
I want to eat that baby seal for dinner. First I punch it to knock it unconscious, then I stab it and cook it on an open fire. Yeah, that would be nice cooked seal meat for my tummy.
Why should we care if a group of terrorists make a flash game? http://www.infowars.com/u-s...
I can't friggin believe it
Peta are a bunch of nut cases that seem out of touch with reality. They have also lost their "charitable organization" status in some countries as so little of the money they get is actually used to help animals. As for the hunting of baby seals, that has been outlawed since 1987. But as the adult seals aren't nearly as cute they need to continue to perpetrate that myth in order to continue getting donations. If these animals were ugly no one would have ever cared.
so where's the link?
I think everyone on this site can agree that PETA is a crock of garbage.
I`m no animal rights extremist, but the baby seal clubbing is f*cking horrendous.
It's supply and demand. While it is cruel, how is it more cruel than lets say killing pigs and cows?
I actually am an animal rights extremist but I hate PETA because they're making it look like a hipster thing. Contrary to the popular religious belief that animals don't have emotions, research proves most mammals do. That means killing a sentient animal = killing a human being. If you have to choose between the two, just save the one who's less evil. Seriously I wouldn't mind if anyone who kills animals for reasons other than survival got savagely mutilated to death.
A lot more, pigs and cows are killed humanely and quickly, not blungeoned to death.
Well, have you guys seen this video? Yeah, clubbing is one thing, but this is beyond anything I have ever seen. http://www.peta.org/feat/ch... Also, I love my meat! :) You tree huggers leave my meat alone!
I have to same concerns about PETA, but at least they are spreading awareness about animal rights, that's all they do is run their mouths, when organisations like WSPA are actually out there rescuing animals from cages in china etc etc. I respect PETA for their message, but if I was to donate money it would go to every animal organisation but PETA @suunyd The fur trade is far worse than anything else, but animal testing is just as horrific, it's extremely upsetting to discus, so I won't go into details, it is safe to say that every animal tested on suffers more than we ever will in our lives though
As I mentioned above, both the International Fund for Animal Welfare and World Wildlife fund have both released reports on the Canadian seal hunt and ruled that the use of the hakapik (the seal "club") was humane. They recommended changes to the hunt, but getting rid of the "club" was not one of the recommendations. Seals are certainly not "bludgeoned to death". Groups like PETA love bringing out their footage from the 70's, but the truth is the hunt is regulated and monitored. Remember, Peta isn't interested in the truth. They think we're all criminals because we have household pets. They find seal hunters an easy target, but those people have as much right to make their living as anyone else. People just don't like seeing "cute" animals turned into products.
...more like "people for the ethical treatment of CUTE animals".... we kill how many animals like chickens, fishs or cows in the whole world per year? f*ck peta with their bs propaganda. the seal hunt is needed because of the lack of natural predators ...without us, imagine what the seal will do with the fishs.... wake up bunch of irationals hippies, a seal overpopulation could be catastrophic
Nowadays a lot of factory still process cows by cutting their legs off and slitting their throats, so I really wouldn't say it's more humane than clubbing the seals.
Do we get to club them?
You're not playing your bot role so well, Obama
I don't see how mocking the clubbing of seals in any way helps them, it would possibly only serve to desensitize people. Got damn cruelty to anumals pisses me off though d!ckless hunters unnecessarily killing animals and people wearing fur...ARGH!
But a part of Newfoundland's economy is built around this; I assure you, baby seals are NOT killed here. Almost all seals are shot here, if there are any clubbed, its only to make sure their dead so they do not suffer. Also, I'd like to address people that think beef slaughter is humane, drive through Alberta sometime and look at how beef is herded for slaughter - then come back and tell me which is more humane.
i have actually seen a video of the clubbing and man its not easy to watch! the people that do it actually are the same people that will do it to any animal not just seals. heartless people.
Yea, I just saw what theyre talking about on youtube and I was pretty shocked. I understand the whole supply and demand thing but wow, clubbing them? Well at least according to 10 theyre just shhoting them now which is less brutal, I guess. BTW, nice avatar! lol
Apparently Microsoft has paid $50 million dollars for exclusive DLC rights to this game. Look out PS3, 2010 is about to be Xbox's year!
I'm from Newfoundland, the heart and home of Canada's Atlantic sea hunt. The province's main industry is cod fish and seal - if we do not kill the seals, they will over eat the cod and screw our industry. Adding to the fact that we do NOT club baby seals anymore, they are shot - have been for a long time. Just because seals are cute, their numbers have to be controlled. If we were to buy into half of PETA's crap we wouldn't have pets either... terrorists lol If you're in the mood for some american sensationalism check out Paul McCartney and whats-her-name (X-wife) take on the premiere of Newfoundland on CNN's Larry King Live... They were there on behalf of PETA, but they didn't know squat. But CNN being the liberal network it is, made it play out in their favor. http://www.youtube.com/watc... Seriously, this is an organization that condemned killing virtual dogs in games like COD, and then when Swine Flu happened, make a billboard saying meat kills instead of being outraged by the pig slaughter that followed. Too foolish to talk about lol Anyways - End Rant lol By the way, here's a few more facts lol - in case you want to be educated about this, instead of fed what PETA tells you to believe: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/st...
yet someone still disagrees with me... lol
I honesty hate animal rights extremists. From both a religious and a scientific veiw, why should I give two craps? It actually shows a disregarde for cultural diffrences; why should you force your views upon the canadians when that is clearly something that they do as a cultural thing. It's like Whale Wars. Let's kill humans to save the poor whales, that sounds like a gret Idea, guys. Greenpeace, PETA, I hate them all. Even if animals do have feelings, they aren't sentient. If they were then that'd be one thing but they aren't. I eat beef, pork, fish, and if I was Canadian I would probably eat seal. Why do people find it their obligation to take that right away from me?
"Even if animals do have feelings, they aren't sentient" You F-ing idiot, all animals are sentient, sentient means they have awareness, and they do, they feel pain and live organised lives, they are more social than humans and have more of a right to this world than we do, as animals naturally preserve their surroundings, unlike humanity who breed, and breed, and breed, and breed. Get a clue, your an embarrassment, it;s easy for you to say from your soapbox, "who cares", but if the horrific things animals had to endure happened to you or other people you knew, you wouldn't say the same thing. Animals don't communicate the way we do, so people need to advocate for them, i'm sure if they could speak they would plead with you like a person would. God damn your a heartless pig.
actually no animals do not naturally preserve their environment. Nature will keep populations in balance, through predation and starvation. For example too many deer in one area will destroy their food supply, but that is good for the wolves and coyotes. So the wolves get easy meals and their population increases while the deer are eaten or starve. Next year year the deer population is back to a more normal level but there are too many wolves and coyotes. So now it's their turn to die of starvation. That in general is how nature works, it's cruel. Peta of course ignore that and think they can engineer a world were animals don't eat each other and no animals ever suffer but that is just not how nature works. EDIT really? I disagree already? some people must be delusional
As long as there is a food supply and no predators to keep them in check animals will continue to breed. For some animals humans are the only natural predator they have left. It's our job to maintain the balance. Sentience simply means the ability to perceive with the senses. It doesn't mean that the animals are in anyway self aware, or have any concept of self.
Even the Navi kills animals to survive.
Obama just saw the Avatar movie I presume.
@TheBand1t The smurfs.
A riffle and a machete in this game to deal some painful death to those lovable creatures...you know why? its because I only care about the animals that I like to eat.
Not because they are for the humane treatment of animals but because they instigate violence against innocent human beings who like to eat meat and have animals as pets. These PETA jackoffs want animals to have the same if not more rights than people.
I really wish i was making this up but I'm not, Penn and Teller did an episode of Bullsh!t about PETA and what I saw was disturbing.
Okay, If I'm such an F*ing idiot, lets look at it a differant way. If were just all the same, then why bother limiting ourselves at all? We are just animals after all. Hunters know too limit themselves, just like pedators do, so why do we need people who don't eat meat to tell those who do how to? If were just the same as any other animal, then we should be treated like any other animal. Were just the top of the food chain. I don't see PETA going out and killing wolves "because they brutally killed a cute little bunney" so why do they do that to humans? @Obama: Dancing with Smurfs lol
