Demon's Souls is one of the most innovative and engaging games to have captured our imaginations and our spare time this year. It is also GameSpot's best RPG of 2009.
PS3 exclusive winning awards from the media. and from gamespot also? Is the world going to end soon?
Demon's Souls also won best RPG at Gametrailers. http://www.gametrailers.com...
Last year they gave Game of the Year to Metal Gear Solid 4, so it's not the newest thing for them to give awards to PS3 exclusives. But still, I'm happy to see this, because Demon's Souls is not only my RPG of the year, it's my overall Game of the Year, and it's good to see it getting recognized here!
Wow, Gamespot has gained a lot of respect back during these last few days. Their choices have been spot on. If UC2 wins GOTY, then there choices will have been the best.
If you have played that game you would know. While playing it's impossible not to get drawn right into that world.
2012 my friend... 2012...
how good this game is. ^_^
does that mean you will lose respect for them if they start giving GOTY awards to 360 or wii?
And all media KNOWS that(actually they knew this already a year ago). It is just NOT cool to hate PS3 anymore. On topic, the game deserves it! GREAT!
No, but I will loose respect if they make stupid choices or claims. I'm just saying that for the first time in a long time I agree with GameSpot and their choices are spot on. If a 360 game deserves an award then so be it, as long as it's the right choice (and this year, there's really no 360 games that deserve awards). EDIT: @Dasbunker wow, totally forgot about Forza. I think it's between it and NFS Shift. Both are pretty much on the same level so either will be fine.
im pro-sony but i think forza deserves best racing game of the year, GTA LCS DLC deserves best DLC of the year and L4D2 is a strong candidate for multiplayer game of the year, lots of people like that game despise it should've been DLC.. the rest was meh-ish i agree there werent many AAA games on 360 this year, but some could deserve one or two awards
I actually had to force myself to stop playing DS but then something inside clicks and I'm back playing it till 3 am It feels nice playing a game that requires some sort of timing, skill, and planning rather than "R1 shoot R2 Grenade." Also feels good playing something when you play it on NG+ its a lot more challenging instead of the same attack patterns, same enemy attitude, etc. By the way I'm having problems getting homeboy to sell White Arrows, if anyone knows the trick outside finding the white bow (which I found on 4-2) I'd apreciate it :/
Still would have given RPG of the year to Dragon Age, but I suppose this is a good choice.
not a ps3 exclusive, i am quite sure it is on pc too
Hell must have frozen over, lol.
@ saaking "No, but I will loose respect if they make stupid choices or claims. I'm just saying that for the first time in a long time I agree with GameSpot and their choices are spot on." so, if you dont agree with their claims and choices, you will loose respect for them. People in N4g really think they are more than what they are.
Dragon Age deserved to win. It is more of a ROLE-playing game than Demon's Souls. Demon's Souls is a great game, yes, but it isn't really that strong when it comes to, you know, ROLE-playing.
Well deserved, Game is fantastic and unique. Gamepsots respect has increased heaps for me.
@justpass: I entirely prefer Dragon Age as RPG of the year for just that reason of supplying more... RPGness... than DS. But DS of course has the graphics and online. But that's the good thing about multiple publications. A lot of different games get recognized for their different strengths. Both can claim to be RPG of the Year and both deserve it imo.
It's a toss up between Demon's Souls and Dragon Age, simply can't choose.
GameSpot has never been anti-PS3. It's only you PS3 fans who scream bias and make conspiracy theories because they don't think *insert PS3 exclusive* is as great as you all make them out.
I'm going to start building my bombshelter in my backyard the world must be coming to an end.
I lost 780,000 souls trying to clean up before beating New game+. Got so mad I put down the game for almost a month. Picked it up yesterday and was at 1,000,000 souls in 2 hours. BTW: The game is at pure white till christmas. Now's your chance to get the Friendship Ring!
I got this game on Sunday. It definitely deserves best RPG. But damn, it's really tough. @[email protected] "not a ps3 exclusive, i am quite sure it is on pc too" HAHAHA OH WOW
·HUGE ·HARD ·ADDICTIVE This game deserves all the praise possible
wonder why $ony didnt ever make the announcement about them buying up gamespot ? Let face it this game was sub par the reviews for the game average at best. Yet gamespot pick it as rpg of the year the no other way to explain it other then $ony now owns gamespot. Anyone with more then 2 brain cells know that the rpg of the year is Dragon Age
Personally, I wish FROM Software would stick to what they do best; Making dark, brooding RPGs. Some of their best work was the King's Field series on PS1/PS2. I also love their Tenchu series. Demon's Souls rules, but I'd welcome a new King's Field game. It's one of my all time favourite series.
Another PS3 exclusive winning yet another award. Nice to see that. This game is a monster!
360 only owners are having a 2009 gaming slum. Not the PS3 and multiple console and PC owners.
Gamespot is becoming worse and worse.
for the 360 camp, lol
Demon's Souls won at IGN as well. And not only is it the best RPG of the year, its also the hardest in a very, very long time. It deserves everything it gets.
So in translation that means they are becoming less biased and not applying different rules to different consoles.
translation means: PS3 gamers take what they can from moments of "shields down" from NA gaming sites and run like hell with it.
And it sure as hell deserves EVERY SINGLE award given to it! The game is nothing short of awesome!
I agree this game is badass this game needs DLC come on atlus. Play3beyond.
DEEEEEEEMON SOULSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS If I didn't import this at the beginning of the year, I would be all over the US version.
Best Shooter - Killzone 2 Best RPG - Demon's Souls Best Platformer - RnC Acit Best Action Adventure - UC2 lol O.W.N.E.D
PS3 ownd 2009 bro !!
Best writing - ACIT Best Graphics tech - U2
But so many people have claimed this year to be a gaming slum.
Well, there are still more x360 and wii gamers than PS3 gamers :). @Chu. Yes, i would have given it to KZ2 as well. I would have also given the writing to U2. RC ACIT writing is funny and witty but U2 writing is just pure class.
No way UC2 has better technicals than KZ2. I don't even know how that's debatable. Just as a small example, go into UC2 on any level with water in the background. Now shoot at it. You'll find that a lot of the background in UC2 is gorgeous but scripted like many other games cause the bullets don't react with the water. Now, go into KZ2 and shoot at the water that's outside the boundries e.g your first mission landing is a good start. It reacts to the bullets. I understand UC has been incredible with the way they have cloth physics interact with water to form wet and dry clothing even on UC1 but all in all... Best technicals and graphics are still Killzone 2 hands down. Funny though how KZ2 surpasses a trailer from 2005 that many proclaimed "HA! THAT CAN NEVER BE DONE EVEN ON THE PS4!" but all of a sudden, everyone seems to be finding all these games that somehow have surpassed Killzone 2 graphically only a couple of months later. uhm, interesting. btw Well deserved on Demon Souls part. It's great it's being recognized as it should be.
Come on Chubear let it go. Any of them deserved to win but as impressive as KZ2 is, UC2 tops it in terms of better textures, much better facial animation, the realtime cutscenes were amazing, etc. You know UC2 tops KZ2 when after have played KZ2 you jaw still dropped playing UC2 ;) That said, dont forget at the end there will be only chaos.
I am not sure about facial animation. KZ2 is extremely good as well in that department. Texture is better in U2 that is true but particle effects and lighting is better in KZ2. Its a though one bettwen the two but if i have to pick i would pick KZ2 because its the most immersive and most intense war game i have ever played. Everytime i go back to KZ2 i still get floored by how good it looks.
There's nothing to let go dude, I'm just having conversation like everyone else and stating what I see and feel. My opinions. ..but I got to tell you, I never had moments where after playing KZ2 then going on to UC2 my jaw dropped. In fact it's the exact opposite and seeing how this game was to be launched last year in nov. it's still staggering to look at. Both incredible games, both on the PS3 so it's always all good; and don't you forget, this is only year 3. Remember, GoW1 came out in year 5 of the PS2 and GoW2 in year 7. Insane times ahead fellow PS3 gamers, insane times ahead. :D
Technically, KZ2 has better graphical tech. But the art style in UC2 makes it appear to be the better game graphically! You don't gaze out across beautiful vistas in KZ2... there is actually very little time for staring! On paper though, KZ2 rules!
Uncharted 2's cutscenes did not run in real time. They were separate video files. This was told to us in "The Making Of" documentary that you can unlock in Uncharted 2.
It is obvious that the cutscenes were video files(well alot of them at least were videos) because of the compression done to them. But He is still essentially correct when he says that they were realtime, since they were real time at some point, they just got exported to a video file to hide load times etc. But all the character models in those cutscenes are the same as in the real gameplay, so very little was changed if any to make the video cutscenes look better than the actual real time ones. In fact I prefered the real time ones because they had no compression. I was actually a little disapointed when I noticed that there was as much compression on the videos as the first game, all the cutscenes looked washed out compared to the gameplay.
heres to demon souls for making me break my controller in rage =]
if you were some of the bloodstains I saw where the player would fall off of cliffs and into water and what not. Those always made me laugh, I went to a bloodstain and the dude was standing..over a ledge for a good 3 seconds then jumped off to his death..
The arm on my sofa keeps looking at me with one eye flinched every time I sit to play DS as if saying "look bucko, if you bite into me again I'm leaving your arse!"
before you get too cheerful at what you think is pure stupidity on others parts, i think your completely overlooking the fact that a majority of them(especially the one where the guy was just standing there then fell off) were trying to get to pure black world tendancy... ive killed myself with cliffs easily 50 or 60 times through my 4 playthroughs of demons souls to get pure black. maybe i was one of the bloodstains for you.
In my first hours of play, I kept wondering why people were jumping off the top in the Nexus. I went up there and saw pure bloodstains and even the ghosts were jumping off the edge! Couple of hours later I was at the top of the Nexus jumping off!
Now where's Bungie??? LOL
LOL 360 fanboys owned
Just give him some time.
Demon's Souls > FAILble 1 & 2 combined.
don't compare Sht like fable to demon souls. Demon souls is EPIC.
"FAILble" Good one, Sir Gabe. :D
I am surprised the 360 fans aren't blowing down Gamespot's doors for not saying Dragon Age: Origins. You know, how they claim multiplats are their pride and joy and all.
oh they are... just check Gamespot's comments
I doubt they would want it to be Dragon Age since the superior console version is on PS3.
ALthough I am not immune to the pull of fanboyism, I try to stay civilized. However gotdamn the open zone sure does give me countless laughs!!! SOme of the comments in here are classics!
Demon souls makes KZ2 SP on elite and U2 SP on crushing looks like child's play.
Playing Demon's Souls is like picking up a shield and sword yourself with no previous training and then going off to slay demons. That's why beating powerful demons feels so rewarding. This game is a true gem and I'm glad the gaming industry as a whole is recognizing it. Also the seamless integration of the online component is a great feat and something future games can learn from. Congratulations Demon's Souls.
