Anand Lal Shimpi sits down with Epic's Mark Rein and plays a demonstration of Unreal Engine 3 running on an iPod Touch. Screenshots, impressions and a short video after the jump!
Hm....wonder how it would look on a PSP?
holy sh1t! Now that's amazing.
it probably would look quite similar, seeing it currently runs on the 3rd gen iTouch/3GS, it would be unlikely to look better than that. However, it would surely control better. @below Not sure if I'd want to play a fast paced shooter on my PSP, Coded arms wasn'T exactly fast and yet, the controls didn'T feel appropriate.
If we got an Unreal Tournament on PSP, I'd actually end up picking my PSP up again.
I don't have an iphone/touch. I do have a psp and dsi. Be nice to have an unreal engine game for those. It doesnt have to be a shooter.
I got used to Coded Arms, i thought the controls on there was a lot better than Portable Ops in first person. I finished the first but got bored with the second. Great game though. Awesome weird bosses.
Got used to Coded Arms aswell, not because it was a good game, but rather because I'm one of those who had to live with the first few years of the PSP (got mine on launch), therefor, I played to death any game worth being played, despite their shortcomings. When I had to choose between Coded arms and games like Rengoku, Coded Arms seemed like a gift from heaven!
Now that's some scalability right there.
Can't remember where, but I think I saw a video of the Wii running the Cryengine. THAT'S scalabilty.
You mean this? http://www.youtube.com/watc... (That's a parody, btw)
goddamn wizards, they're wizards. I'd love to see how they've implemented it. Maybe they'll release some examples in their free UE3 sdk.
No need to make any games with this engine if it only works on the latest iPhone. What about all the other millions of iPhones out there.
It looks fine but dear god that control scheme would make me through my ipod against the wall. Honest to god it would drive me batty
Mark Rein claimed unreal engine 3 couldnt run on wii and now he ports his engine to the ipod touch?
as you can see, it's not about the hardware, he just doesn't want to make games for the wii. And it's funny they'd rather make an fps on system that isn't well suited for the genre. ahh well
I was coming to write the same comment. I remembered this as well.
Stick to UE 2 or something. Seriously, this is just going to suck up battery life.
