NVIDIA 3D-Vision: Blu-Ray, Cameras, Projectors, HDTVs

Benchmark Reviews tested the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Gaming Kit when it originally launched back in January, 2009. Comprising a set of battery-powered LCD shutter glasses, the infrared emitter to drive them, and special 120Hz refresh-rate monitors, it enabled high-quality 3D gaming with hundreds of games, as long as you had a sufficiently powerful NVIDIA video card.

In 2010, NVIDIA is planning to extend their 3D Vision technology into still photos, the web experience, gaming laptops, and upcoming 3D televisions. Benchmark Reviews recently attended an NVIDIA one-on-one briefing on these new technologies, which will be formally announced at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show.

Building a HTPC just for 3D Blu rays, hook up to the DLP. I have a PS3, but I might want to play some games in 3D, don't think the PS3 is powerful enough to take games to 3D(already at 30fps)

Was at fry's yesterday and passed by a setup with the nvidia glasses and a big screen setup with the movie Up playing. Not that impressive from a "3D" POV but what impressed me was the 65" screen playing it. Now I would rather have that than the 3D.

edit: I havnt tried wipeout myself in 3D but there is this tiger karate game on both the ps3 and 360 that can do 3D. I had a pair of those cheesy red/blue glasses I got from the monster/aliens promo around the superbowl. Anyway...it worked even if it seemed a bit old school but it worked.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but hasn't the PS3 already been used for 3D gaming with wipeout at 60fps?

Fishy Fingers3106d ago

Correct, the PS3 can display "any" 60FPS game in 3D. Perhaps they're using different tech or something, I'm not sure.

the 3D being used in these new TVs and games is different from old school red/blue 3D. It's the tech used in the Avatar movie and in IMAX theaters. PS3 has been/will be upgraded to the new 3D standard for displaying games and BR movies.

the frames are halved when running 3d for example a 120hz monitor is the recommended spec for pc as it displays 2 separate 60hz images ( so 60 frames for each eye) to give the 3d effect, it does still work with games that run at 60 frames because it's 30 frames for each eye. But a game that runs at 30 frames would be halved to run at 15 frames for each eye, aka very very very choppy. So no 3d killzone 2 or uncharted 2 or 90% of all ps3 games for that matter. Only 60 frame games will run decent enough

120fps games.

3D PS3 games running at 60fps for each eye.

@dchalfont

You hit the nail on the head.
Almost ALL PS3, XBOX360 games run under 60fps so you won't be seeing too many 3D games of Uncharted, Gears, KZ2, caliber anytime soon.
