The 911 on video game obsession

It's game over for a 14-year-old Roxbury boy, whose overwhelmed mother was so exasperated with his incessant video game playing that she called the cops on him.

The final straw for Angela Mejia snapped at 2:30 a.m. Saturday when, "I woke up in the middle of the night and saw the light on in his bedroom," hours after she had told him to go to sleep.

"Sometimes I want to run away, too," Mejia said, breaking down in tears in her immaculate apartment. "I have support from my church, but I'm alone. I want to help my son, but I can't find a way."

How about giving that a try.

People are so stupid nowadays; she's lucky that her kid didn't do anything rash enough to get himself arrested or worse.

There's a saying:

"I'd rather spank you now than have a cop shoot you later".

whats with these parents that cant parent. Simply take the games away and stop buying them. Im sure the little kid didnt buy his games/systems himself.

The kid is 14, shes not spanking this kid. What she needs is to clearly communicate to the kid that it is in his best interest to listen. Take away the PlayStation, take away the game, create consequence for his actions.

You can beat the sh*t out someone, but if they don't know why your doing it, it serves no purpose. The person needs to make the connection between the pain and the act you don't want them to commit.

I was spanked when I was bad. And I will spank my children when they are bad... Though not in public like my parents did sometimes (but HEY, back in the early 80s no one thought of calling the police over it!!!)

Anyway, as for video games... OH BOY! Let me tell you, my children will know the meaning of 1) Time restrictions. 2) Groundings and spankings. and 3) Driving my car over their PS4 or PS5, or whatever console they have if they don't obey!

Why? Because, I refuse to raise a looser-stay-inside-all-day-no- real-life-friends child!!!

in that case give your kid up for adoption if they are on wheelchair or are mentally handicaped if they are perfectly fine well i can see ur point but that sounds a little harsh there lol

i know for me if i ever have kids that i wont give my kids punishment but i will however tell them thier life is screwed in the long run if they dont know the consequences of thier action to the real world as long as they are aware they can make whatever choices they wish too cuz im in no way going to be *controlling*

and [email protected] drive the car over the ps4 or 5 o.O you might have a gaming use for it you know lol

It's funny how the mother says that she would never buy her kid game like GTA4 which he was playing. I wonder where did he get the game? Of course there is the possibility that she bought the game that her son wanted and ignored the sticker that said only for people who are 18 or older. But we all know that is not possible because parent's are never the ones who to blame, it is the god awful sinful games.

anyone would think that hes out on the streets doing drugs and committing actual crimes, this woman needs her head checking seriously. if she don't want him to play GTA4 DON'T BUY IT HIM, she is a idiot hypocrite :| the police have better things to be doing than putting little kids to sleep.

Setekh3161d ago

The mother should be charged with wasting police time.
Pathetic.
