Every entertainment industry has its own set of prestigious awards. Movies have the Oscars, music has the Grammys, television has the Emmys, etc. Unfortunately, video games have yet to figure out what the big awards of the year are going to be: should they be the Game Developer's Choice Awards? The Spike Video Game Awards? A specific news outlet's choices? There are many options available, with none rising about the noise.
That's the problem: there doesn't seem to be a universal standard for excellence in this industry, and it doesn't seem like one is likely to come along any time soon.
