IGN: Roundtable: M-Rated on Wii

While Nintendo has been a beacon of expansion for the casual videogame market, the more dedicated, hardcore user base has been in a noticeable decline as the years wear on. True, some gamers may be leaving the Big N's system for more bloody waters, seeking out games like Modern Warfare 2, Halo, and Gears of War on Xbox 360, or turning to the PS3 for Killzone, Resistance, or action epic Uncharted 2, but the issue of hardcore content on Wii goes both ways. As the casual market grew, support for Nintendo's Wii console also began to move from traditional games to more "E for everyone" titles, with the current state of the platform showing a clear dominance of casual over hardcore.

So what does that do for games like No More Heroes 2, titles that still stick to the M rating, push more mature themes (in the traditional sense; not just blood and gore) and embrace the other side of Wii's catalog?

IGN, IGN, before saying that a certain game "bombed" in sales please do some research.
NMH is Suda 51s best selling game, and it made enough to get a sequel, lets see how much NHM1 sells on the PS360.
Madworld sales aren't going to match RE titles and it doesn't need to, look at the budget on games like HOTD and Madworld, their "crappy" sales were pretty good if you keep in mind how much it actually cost to make them. Look at UC2, how much did that game cost to make? Great game, but did it earn it all back with its sales?

Seriously. NMH didn't bomb. It's up to what, 450K lifetime sales? For a niche title made on a small budget by a small developer?

It did well enough to get a sequel green lit. And as you said, it's Suda's best-selling game.

These guys just don't fact check. This isn't "gaming journalism." It's fanboyism.

The funniest part is that killer7 on the "hardcore" ps2 bombed terribly in comparison to NMH. I'm pretty sure Petz: Horses outsold Killer7 on ps2. God forbid they do research beyond talking to their loser friends.

all it would take is galaxy 2, metroid: Other M or... i dare say it... a new LOZ for wii to bring those declining core numbers right on back. Then all those people who sold their wiis will needs something "core" to buy and they will find madworld, NMH 1, NMH 2, Prime Trilogy and red steel 2 waiting for them.
