Wii owners mostly adults; 16 million+ Wiis in '07

The IDC analyst group, in addition, predicts the Wii to sell 16.1 million units worldwide in 2007, whereas the PlayStation 3 is expected to sell 9.87 million, and the Xbox 360 9.69 million. Keep in mind that Nintendo's projected 14 million Wii units manufactured is for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008, not December 31st of this year. The IDC's prediction of 16.1 million is retroactive to January 1, 2007.

1)The Xbox 360 has probably already sold 10+ million by now.
2)The PS3 is so far behind that there is no way in hell it could get to 10 million let alone pass up the Xbox 360 in 2007.
3)Most Wii owners that are adults also either own Xbox 360s or PS3s.
4)Analyst groups talk out of their @sses.

As an adult Wii owner who does not yet own either a 360 or a PS3, and having 4 other friends who fit the same demographic, I'm going to say that your #3 is based on assumption unless you provide evidence to support the contrary. I also know 3 college students who don't own any other console besides the Wii.

Im an adult wii owner who will never buy a PS3 or XBox360.

I think the PS3 and Wii numbers are very possible but 360 is very close to 10 million now.

This makes for a better read if you go back to the original Bloomberg article ( http://www.bloomberg.com/ap... ).

The predictions are for 2007, not cumulative. Xbox 360 & Wii numbers seem reasonable given current trends & a hinted 360 price cut, but Sony really has to get some traction under the PS3 & quick if they hope to even come close to that 9.87 million.

"The IDC’s prediction of 16.1 million is retroactive to January 1, 2007."

The numbers are not totals, they are predictions of what each console is "suppose" to sell from March 2007 until March 2008....although for some reason they are including Wii sales since Jan 1st as part of their prediction of 16.1 million by March 2008. -As far as I can see the Wii is still in demand so obviously its possible if the demand holds. The numbers for the 360 are reasonable expectations but as far as the PS3 is concerned I think they are going to need a major boost to hit those sales predictions.

Either way you never know whats going to happen in this industry, ask Nintendo.....I just wish all those analyst that made all those "predictions" from a yr or so ago....would start doing some "then vs. now", comparison news articles. -But who likes to admit they were wrong?
