TAIPEI (Reuters) - Dell Inc. (DELL.O: Quote, Profile , Research) is leaving the LCD television business to focus on its core PC products amid an ongoing company overhaul by founder Michael Dell, Taiwan media reported on Thursday.
It was a very stupid move to enter the market anyway. Michael Dell is a very smart guy but he screwed up. On a totally unrelated note, I heard he's a really boring guy.
With limited customer service, and probably NO replacement plan to speak of, expect to see vendors off-loading their DELL flat panels for a significant discount. The screens are good quality, and will most likely outlive any warranty you would purchase for it anyhow. So this could be a good opportunity to pick yourself up a nice new gaming screen.
didn't he leave chairman of the board for a while or something like that. I mean you have to innovate to stay competitive. I mean we could say the same about lot of companies that take "RISK" with new products. Gazillion of them out there. some doing OK and some not. After a while, when your that profitable, your sorta iching to come out with a new product or to enter a new market. hey, look at whats become of MS.(well they have money..hehe) How many companies in history that started out with one product but branched out with a gazillion, and also entered different markets. What about Sony, they started making Video game consoles and it has paid off. A big part of their revenue has been from the games division in recent years. Anyhow I hope you get the point. It has not worked, like Dell wanted so there, now he has to catchup to HP(which seems to be on Fire right now). Hence why your gonna start seeing DELLS at RETAIL stores soon.
