The words ''Hardcore Gamer'' get pushed around alot these days but what does it actually mean? It means different things to alot of different people but what does it mean to me? And what should it mean to you?

once i finish Demon's Souls.. then i hope i can at least go around and say i'm somewhere hardcore. but sadly i'm still stuck in World 1-2. the boss is so freaking huge and as if that's not enough, they've put a battalion of archers. ALL IN SECTION 2 OF LEVEL 1???

and i've clocked 8 hours already. lol. q:

and oh.. i just play games because i love playing them. i love some for stories, some for mindless pass-time, some because i have to crack my head. never for the points or trophies. then it becomes drudgery.

Let's see: I've owned a home 'Pong' system, Atari VCS (don't recall the manufacturer), Snes, Mega Drive (and Mega CD!), Atari Jaguar, Cdi, PS1, N64, Gameboy, Gameboy Colour, PSP, Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, Xbox360 (briefly) and now a PS3 but I'll never consider myself a "hardcore gamer" because to me, it's JUST A HOBBY!

No and those who call themselves that are idiotic elitists.

Indeed, there may be a little truth to that even if I feel you're way too harsh. People like to think of themselves as somehow more committed to things and "hardcore" might just be an unfortunate label rather than them being arrogant/elitist.

Personally, I don't much like "casual" or "gardcore" as lables and like to think of us as just gamers-but some of us are a little more serious about the way we play what we play. Certainly, there's a distinction to be drawn between gamers who prefer challenging titles(and what are traditionally viewed as "hardcore games")and those newer to the hobby who like less of a demanding experience. Degrees of seriousness is what I'd advise over saying "well I'M hardcore!" to people. Saying you're a pretty serious/experienced gamer is a lot less disky, imo, and should show a lot more about what kind of gamer you are-but we must remember we're ALL gamers on the most baic level and as such we all deserve a little more resopect than we sometimes offer each other. Again, though, I think people use "hardcore" when they merely mean they like maturee gmes and feel they take gam,ing quite seriously as a hobby-nothing more worrying than a crappy label making things look a bit worse than they are fella.

Nowadays there's no telling exactly what "Hardcore" means which is why I consider myself a true gamer.
