10 things your phone will do in 10 years

The cell phone used to be mainly about making phone calls, but those days are long gone.

The future of cell phones

The past decade has seen the device evolve into the Swiss Army Knife of consumer electronics. Not only can you take pictures and video with your phone, you can use it to send e-mails, chat on instant messengers, listen to music, get directions, and even watch television.

The technology has come a long way since the days of brick-shaped analog phones that barely fit in a purse, let alone a pocket. Two years ago, experts predicted that there would be 3 billion cell phone subscribers worldwide by 2010. Now it looks as if we'll pass the 3 billion mark by the end of this year.

As wireless-service operators continue to deploy third-generation, or 3G, networks, which support high-bandwidth applications such as video and Internet access, this phenomenal growth is likely to continue. But a big question for consumers is: what will these phones do? CNET News.com talked to industry experts and executives and spent some time gazing into a crystal ball to come up with the following list of 10 things the average cell phone user will be doing with his or her phone in the not-too-distant future. (Mobile, Tech)

like paying tons of cash?
3g is everywhere. last october it was launched nation wide, While this April they doubled the speed to 7.2 megs. Also. Do you know what a 8 gig card runs? Last I checked it runs $199.99 Lets not Forget the $26 dollar upgrade fee for the contract. that Cingular will not wave.
And it even more if your a Switch over from another carrier like Verizon. $36 bucks and prorated first months bill. $$$

Lets break it down
$36.00 Activation fee for a 24 month contract

First months bill is prorated. That means Cingular bills a month in advanced so be ready for a huge bill.
If you want the internet or E-mail to work at all you will be forced to get the $39.99 unlimited data plan per month. <--yep thats also prorated. and the data plan is is on top of your voice plan. $$$
All the while you will only be running at EDGE speed.
Here is another little fun fact. You will not be taxed off the $599.99 price. oh no. Its the law that you must be taxed off the retail price of the phone. Anyone know what that is???
I do. its 999.99

lets not forget the cases and accessories that your sales boys will be pushing you to get. ( I should know, I'm one of them)

Total price out the door with the extra memory, case, and tax.

599+ (tax will vary from state to state. San Francisco will =684.99
199.99+ tax+215.00
plus 32.49 for the case

($932.48) WOW!

lol wait to you get the first months bill! a wealthy man will still sh!t his pants

WOW I am impressed with all these advancements... I think they should invest a little more researching how to improve reception and drop calls. For some reason I feel that the more feature a phone has the more it sucks at doing the one thing we need to do the most... make phone calls! grr.. and while they are at it... how about reducing the cost of the service you freaken thieves!

I like always having a top of the line phone with lots of features. I have the Sprint PPC 6700 and am waiting for the 6800 to be released to upgrade.
