New Super Mario Bros. Wii usage stats and first week sales

Gaming Target writes...

"Nintendo has performed their weekly update of the Wii's Nintendo Channel and with we get our first look at the usage statistics of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. While more or less a novalty after only a week of sales, these stats show that Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime's prediction that the game would outsell Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on a single platform has quite a ways to go before it comes true."

Yeah this is shaky journalism right here. Basing any assumption on Nintendo channel stats is not particularly reccomended IMO. As for NSMB wii outselling Modern warfare 2... in time, there is no question that will happen. It IS a mario game after all. Though it can be stated that MW2 will msot likely have wayyyyyyy more play hours.

Do you even follow videogames? There is no chance this game could outsell either the PS3 or 360 versions of MW2. He was backed into a corner in that interview which is why he said that, but Mario games cannot compete with Call of Duty.

Example, Mario Galaxy, which was a brand new 3d game that we waited 5 years for, sold I believe around 6 million copies. MW1 sold 12 million. NSMB Wii is basically a rehash of the DS game, it will be very difficult for it to sell much above 5mil, both the PS3 and 360 versions of MW2 could easily sell more than that.

He said on one platform and you give combined sales as proof he is wrong? MW1 may be at 12 million on 2 or more platforms but NSM DS is at 16 million on 1 platform?
Chances are he is right but it isnt going to happen over night or even when he said January, but it will most likely happen.

Actually New Super Mario Bros DS has sold 20 million and using Super Mario Galaxy isn't exactly a good comparison as the 2D marios are much, much more popular than 3D ones.

Super Mario Galaxy has sold over 8 million by the way, the highest selling version of MW1 was the 360 version at around 7 million.

Last I checked Mario represents video games to an entire generation and his sales murder COD on any one platform. He sells consoles. Mario games can't compete with COD...roflroflrofl.

Do you even follow video games? How is a game designed around multiplayer a rehash of a DS game? Did you play 4 players on New Mario DS? Cause we all wanted this game to play with our friends. There's no mario like it.

In the ds game did you struggle to stay on a tiny platform with 4 people while bouncing off their heads to avoid fireballs? Or fight with them over the one fireflower that appears? Maybe you bounced them above obstacles or threw them to safety? Maybe you bounced them off your head over a fireball and they knocked you under that same fireball as you jumped between moving platforms. You do that and much more in the wii version. There's no other Mario like it.

Very difficult to sell 5 mil cause it's a rehash, rofl. Man there are 5 2d mario games since NES (Mario, Mario 3, SMW, New Mario DS, New Mario Wii) not counting lost levels or Mario 2. There have been 5 COD games in 2 generations. Your logic hurts your argument since you can more easily claim that COD MW2 is just a "rehash" of the previous 4 COD games in a much shorter time and so it shouldn't sell well. Oh sh!t, consistency...

They could release a new multiplayer Mario of this quality MONTHLY and I would buy it. People STILL play Mario 3 and SMW. Level editors were out within days for this game because we all want more Mario!

You're pretty ignorant to ask if he follows video games then question whether Mario is gonna break 5 million. Particularly Mario with MULTIPLAYER. Hilarious, these n4g readers. Did you start at ps1 or something cause I really can't believe you asked that then called new Mario a rehash.

Man I wish they had the black wii out in America right now! I got this game at the house but I need a quick dose lol. I may go and buy another wii for my hotel suite lol I can not wait to get back home. We also got a copy of bomberman wii too man is that game fun.

To the hd gamers that don't know you can actualy control some platforms with tilting the controller and when you do the classic lifting of the controller to help get Mario over that pit you actualy get a move that helps. This game is pretty far from what the ds version was. It is like a true sequel to Mario 3.

Oh yeah if you find demon blade you better buy a copy now it may be one of the only games that goes up in value simply becuase there simply was not many copies put out on the market.

If capcom would port that psp ultimate ghouls and ghost I would be even happier.
