It is a game to game decision, but making a game 2D definitely makes the game more accessible.
Im in love with 2D. Call me archaic...
iam agreed with ya Bubbles+^^
actually i think 2D games are harder than 3D for the most part in 3D you have a lot more space to dodge and you don't need to be nearly as precise...... or maybe I just suck at 2D mario :P but I honestly find the 3D ones a lot easier.
I love colorful 2D RPGs as well as 2D/sidescrollers. It's a shame that we are losing so many games on the console now (such as Castlevania 2D and Megaman 2D). Good to see Miyamoto and the developers for Muramasa trying to continue this experience. I know there are a few titles on psn/xbox live/wiiware but those kind of games deserves more importance.
I'd love a new 2D metroid now that there done with the prime series but I don't really know if I like the way Other M looks. It looks really over the top and not very metroidish I just can't picture melee combat in metroid and it doesn't have that all alone exploring an unknown planet vibe.
games that are better 2d then 3d Contra Mario Megaman (the old megaman games not the crappy ds games now) and call me crazy but metroid is better 2d then 3d. some games just never get old even if its the same old same old.
Actually Megaman Zx and Zx advent are really great.
should have specified more lol i was talking about the battle network series. the megaman games that build off the old style megaman gameplay are great.
I wish there were more 2d HD games. Those can be really gorgeous if done right. Anything like Mario, Metroid, Megaman, etc. would like great in hd.
There is so much uncovered ground in 2d gaming that it is just sickening. What was so addicting was the skill level required to beat the game and the art. There was no real excuse you could use for not making a 2d game look good. Ethier you had greatartist or not. If your programmer could not make the game persice it would show as soon as you played it. These 3d teams should be required to make at least one 2d game to rival their 3d ones. It is a pure creative exersice in game design and art design. Also remember 2d does on always mean side to side.
Miyamoto is amazing... An inspiration... I could think of many words to describe this man... BUT as much as I love his franchises I HAVE to be critical on everything... Its in my nature... Sure games dont have to be 3D... But also Miyamoto should learn that games dont have to be rehashes of games that have followed the same formula for over a decade... Sure you can release a new Zelda or Mario and it will be good based off the franchise alone... But the real task would be to do something fresh... Could he design a totally new 2D platformer? in this day and age I honestly dont think he is capible of it...
"Could he design a totally new 2D platformer? in this day and age I honestly dont think he is capible of it..."
Are you serious?
@Gametime "But also Miyamoto should learn that games dont have to be rehashes of games that have followed the same formula for over a decade" Miyamoto has create some abstract games. The man loved puppies so we got Nintendogs. The man started exercising and we got WiiFit. He gardened we got Pikmin. Those aren't original? You think the man couldn't create another original 2D game? GTFO.
so wrong...so so wrong in many ways =P
Pikmin was definitely an interesting game that I would love to see more of. I would like for Miyamoto to make something original again more along those lines rather than Wiifit and Nintendogs. The newer things aren't so much games anymore in my opinion.
but he says this and it coincides with the release of the NSMB, which is unfortunately the biggest title for the Wii from them this year! next year when SMG2 release, he will say something in favor of 3D! trust me, this man is marketing his new game and that's all it to this statement!
New Super Mario Bros Wii is awesome, awesome! and yes Miyamoto, moar 2D. Next up 2D Zelda, yah?
I don't think we'll ever see another 2D Zelda unless it's in the style of Zelda II.
I know... but I can dream can't I? I think a downloadable one would be awesome though, especially some form of sequel to Four Swords with Online!
I really loved Zelda when the games were like a link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Oracle of Seasons/Ages. It's not that I don't like current releases, there is something about the older top down games that were really charming.
Tellin' it like it is.
Animated movies are the same way. Not everything has to be 3D computer animated.
Great Comment! Can't wait to get my hands on the new Bonk and Rocket Knight Adventures. + 1 Miyamoto
"Miyamoto: Not everything needs to be 3D" Agree.
i agree. Sonic games are a perfect example! However, Sonic adventure 2/Battle was so awesome!
He said 'When going 2D, you need the courage to not be so attached to visual appearance of the games and to really pursue the gameplay experience' Fair enough maybe and he may have practically invented platform gaming but he did bash Rare's great Donkey Kong Country game as being all mouth and no trousers, something for which he latest apologised. Rare also managed to make a 2D platformer in 1994 that has more detail and subtlety to it, in art design, control and music, than many subsequent 3D games, including those on the Wii.
It's just more enjoyable.
i would love to see the return of side scrollers like Mario, Megan Man, Legendary Axe on the Turbographix, Bonk, etc etc etc....seems like everybody wants to do 3D just like theres a craze to do movies in 3D now. Ah well.
Make the overhead view Zelda but it better have at least like 60 different people in Kakariko Villge.
That's what Kazunori said when making the environments of GT5. That's why the game has [email protected] last gen looking tracks.
New Super Mario is the best! I seriously remember being one of the first kids in the neighborhood to have gotten the NES. Will always remember being 13yrs old and being glued to the tv with a bunch of my friends playing super mario bros. What frikin memories man! Its those little things in life that you just never forget and hold close in your mind. Thx Nintendo for giving me those memories and thx for giving me that old school feeling with the new mario bros. It still cant compare to being a kid and playing it for the first time, but it does give you a little nostalgia feeling every so often while playing!
What i need is a good old turn based 2d Jrpg game.3D is nice but so is 2D!
I so agree with this so much. I love 2D games I wish more developers would make more 2D games. I so would love Nintendo to make a new Side-scroller 2D Donkey Kong Country game. I also want another side-scroller Metroid game too. I also think a new Kid Icarus would be another cool 2D game. I also would like a new Ice Climber. Another great 2D game is StarTropics and if Nintendo could make these 2D games I would be thrilled. So with this comment I hope to see more first part Nintendo 2D games. Because I love 2D. So with this comment I think this is good news for 2D fans. I can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store for 2D fans next.
If Miyamoto truly believes that games don't need to be 3D then Nintendo needs to stop giving the games a pseudo-3D graphics style. I was very upset with the graphical presentation of New Super Mario Bros. on Wii. Rather than do a drawn sprite style like Wario Shake It, they instead prettied up the playdo look of the DS game.
I still dont like fighting games in 3d. The controls are funny and the overal feeling is less than tight. I probably played every 3d fighter ever since virtua fighter 1. Some genres dont work too well in 3d others dont work too well in 2d. Why companies force feed us 3d games is really beyond me. I hope thats going to change next year when the new HD sonic will come out.
he is right/.';, miyamoto is the best Nintendo company for games is the best except the pokemon game for wii they are not going to create a good game for wii /.'' I do not know why but this isn't correct
I love 2D and i hope it continues on the soul of every console =P. Can't wait for the first fully animated 2D game =P. ( and i mean like lots of frames per object)
this game already exist and the name is muramasa, you should already have it in your wii sidar -_-
Nah, that game is awesome, but im talking about going further than that.
Kid Icarus should be Nintendo's priority, either as a part 3D/part 2D game or as a fully 2D game. It will give long time Nintendo fans something to be pleased about. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave it to Retro Studios to give them a break from the Metroid series. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat was quite good on the Cube but they can't live up to what Rare did with Donkey Kong Country.
