Brutal Gamer: Football Manager 2010 (PC) Review

With Football Manager 2009 being voted the greatest football game of all time, Sports Interactive had their work cut out for them as the new season closed in.

Last year's effort was hugely hyped as the popular football manager simulator had a big makeover but the focus of FM 2010 seems to be much more of a "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" approach. All the appeal of previous games has been retained while the most notable change has been the overhaul of the navigation system which seems alien at first but you will soon become used to it after the first few hours of game play. The navigation sidebar that fans have become accustomed to has made way for a tab system which makes moving around clearer, less cluttered and is far less intimidating for newcomers.

Why I Hate… Football Manager

Eurogamer: "It's a shame when relationships end but it's often for the best. Football Manager and me had it all – long intimate evenings, weekends away, the occasional holiday. I'd thought we never split up. But eventually cracks began to appear, the physical side deteriorated, and we became strangers.

As an early adopter of pretending to manage a football team on a computer (i.e. a semi-autistic weirdo), a chronic addiction to Football Manager seemed my inevitable destiny. My first taste was the original Football Manager on the ZX Spectrum, whose bearded creator, Kevin Toms, appeared beaming on the cassette case cover."

Great games.

Gonna have to throw Street Fighter III: Third Strike on my list. No other fighting game has created as many memories as that one has and everything about it, 11 years later, is still top notch today. Great animations, characters, music, and stages. Not to mention the deep level of mastery required to play it at a high level... people are still discovering new techniques and strategies. I also think it's one of the most entertaining games to watch, in general. So much hype sometimes.

The final round of this match is a perfect example of why I love this game so damn much:

I hope Third Strike - Online Edition brings a new generation of people to enjoy this masterpiece.

For me, Final Fantasy X. Beautiful story.

For me, Fallout 3, MGS4, Space invaders, Ratchet and Clank: Up your Arsenal and Pokemon Yellow. Those are my top 5.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. The first one, for GameCube, and probably the only one that was great between the series. Probably the only FF I'll love with my heart, too.

It was...awesome.
