after playing this for a few hours on the PC I've come to the conclusion that it should have been an expansion or map pack, its just more of the same. I even think that the maps are less atmospheric then the ones on the first game. Valve should have waited a bit longer and released this on source engine 2, bit of a let down really.

just my opinion.

edit: I have to give them credit for the excellent new blood and gore effects, quite nasty, but as far as i can tell all the death animations for zombies are pulled from the first game.

Can you imagine how awesome an Orange Box like bundle with Half-Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 2 on a new engine would have been?

360 audience > PC audience.

I mean last time I saw Valve talking about new technology, it was Flashlights & Film Grain...

I remember when Valve was badass, the source then that Lost Odyssey HDRI demo was amazing. Then they became complacent and started doing the episodes thing. And now we are here.

Chubear3014d ago

They look exactly the same. There are even shots in this comparison that had better visuals on L4D then they did on L4D2.

Thats what I am saying Chubear and 7 people disagree...

Are they disagreeing because the lighting is different? Look at the textures and lines... Exact.

You guys need to quit being so sensitive. This game is not a 360 exclusive. It is a PC game ported the the 360. The engine is old and needs updating. All of source engine graphics look the same. After this long there is no more improvement to be made. Cry, click disagree, hate me, report me... I DONT CARE. You guys are so blind because you feel you have to defend something that can't be defended. Its old.

HL2 was amazing... But who wants to play episodes to a 5 year old game? I want a new engine and legit sequels... but you people worship Valve. Their best work isn't even theirs!!! Counter Strike was made by GAMERS making a mod. Quit praising them... They got all the praise they deserved from me when HL2 released. Now its the same old, same old.... Let them innovate again. Making money hand over fist with steam has made them lazier than ever.

Penny, dont say that... ODST failed them and jumped into MW2 immediately when they realized it was a waste of money... or parents money. Another expansion then to another expansion. L4D2 is the only "exclusive" they have that might actually be fun.

Btw Penny, go buy Ass Creed 2... worth every penny. Long fun game, a lot of variety indeed. Also, after you play the game for five hours or so... watch the Assassin's Creed Lineage I (short movie) on the extras.

I am picking up AC2 after work. So many games to play. I am currently addicted to UC2 online.

It doesn't look the same, but L4D2 doesn't look much better, either. The new special infected have a more realistic "fleshy" look, but the regular infected look worse in L4D2, IMO (at least those on the comparison shots).

L4D2 looks better and there's more details in the characters like the zombies skin and stuff.

kenjix3014d ago

Is LFD2 on the right or the left please?

raztad3014d ago

Pretty much the same, some minor details here and there. This is the source engine though, you cant expect a huge improvement in visuals. Anyone buying this game should know they are getting additional content but essentially the same graphics.

I'm not quite sure why this game even exist as a standalone game. Is it continuing a good story arc from L4D1? or is this a bunch of new maps put together?

I’m happy with L4D2, let me rephrase that, I am extremely happy with L4D2. If it was a expansion or as is, wouldn’t have made much difference. Because the boycotters were complaining about splitting the community, well had it been an expansion. It still would have split the community. As for the price, I bought the 4 pack, which made it about $32.75 for each copy. The Sims 3 new expansion pack is $39.99, so not much of a difference.
