VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi interviews Marc Whitten, the general manager of Xbox Live on the online service's latest developments, including banning modders and integrating Facebook and Twitter.
Does the twitter integration "tweet" the fact you were banned?
They didn't want to bring the internet to a complete stand still... j/k
"We didn’t release the number. I cannot explain to you why people would think it was a million people. It wasn’t a million people." Because of the giant toilet known as gaming journalism. Anyone with half a brain knew it was a BS number but the fannies ran with it.
I don't even know why there was such an outcry about the bannings when those with modded consoles know it's wrong, know the repercussions and week after week of new releases appear on torrent sites. I don't feel sorry for anyone who got banned. If you got banned it's because you were doing something wrong.
Because as hard as it is to accept, some people with modded consoles aren't pirates?
Even if they're not pirates, do the expect to have the same treatment a normal customer would when anything goes wrong?
Look, if you mod your console it's against Microsoft's Terms and Conditions YOU agreed to. It doesn't matter if you don't pirate games, modding your console is wrong and if you're caught you should bear the penalty of this. There were as many bans this summer but with not as high profile a release as Modern Warfare 2, there wasn't this great an outcry. Microsoft bans modded consoles throughout the year.
Like I said before, if you mod your brand new Honda Civic with a Turbo and the car no longer works. Honda will not fix it for you, as you voided the terms of service. Similiar to what happened here.
Except, as I understand the ToS it applies to software, not hardware. That the worst that should happen is voiding a valid warranty.
"Because as hard as it is to accept, some people with modded consoles aren't pirates? " - godmars NO, just the MAJORITY of them! More like 99.999999%! I have no sympathy for thiefs (pirates), because they are a parasite in the gaming industry that raises cost for legitimate customers. The fact that they can still use their Live Gold membership and their console is already too nice!!!
So it's ok for me to break into your home and take a major dump in your toilet. I didn't do anything wrong, I just used your toilet.
A better analogy is if you bought toilet and its makers broke into your home and plugging it up because you stand instead of sit when taking a pee. Cutting the power cord on your toaster because you're buttering your bread before, not after you toast it. And these are also modded 360s: http://images.google.com/im...
No, it's more like you bought a cable box, then proceeded to steal premium TV channels from the company. The company then cut you off, but was nice enough to let you move your pre-paid subscription to your basic tv channels to another cable box. Because you bought something physical doesn't mean you can use it to steal from others! By the way, the modded consoles you shown of people making artistic boxes on google. Did anyone of them get their Xbox banned for changing the look of their box? I DIDN'T THINK SO!!!
in a desperate attempt to generate some extra holiday sales we decided to randomly start banning consoles. Here is to a profitable holiday thanks to our underhanded methods of generating sales of our dated & unreliable system.
You're a moron and it's no surprise that you have so many bubbles since N4G is a site full of morons like yourself. If someone got banned is because they were doing something wrong and deserved their punishment but moronic fanboys like yourself don't have common sense so I wouldn't expect you to understand that.
Hurts cuz he's right. Don't it
it's all over for meeeeeeeeeeeeee
aawwwww poor StanLee's poonie is hurting today. I would say go play a game but the betabox doesn't have new good ones. oh to be back in 2007-2008 for the xbots when life was good. let me know how those exclusive multiplats are.
If you M$ keeps banning people on your LIVE why don't you listen to your consumer and give them what they want. The freedom to give them a larger hard drive, and not to put YOUR NAME ON IT. Lower the cost of the USB Adapter. You may be the cheapest console out their but now competing the price with PS3. Lower your accessories cost so no one have to spend extra more money on parts.
Microsoft was tired of people modding their systems so the fan would run cooler and prevent the RRoD. It's against MS policy to improve your system. "Dear 360 owners who have loved your system and made sure it runs smoothly, FVCK You! We here at MS want your system to crash do you have to buy another one." so to keep profits up, they are "encouraging" gamers to go our and buy a new system and Live account. don't buy into this people. ms is a disease, a cancer! Jump out and Play B3yond!
"These were people that were pirating software. We try to keep sanctity of life from a safety and anti-cheating perspective and we protect our partners." They Throw this word around alot "Anti-cheating" How is a modded xbox Cheating and a Rapidfire Controller is NOT I hope this Law suite gets these guys... Make them Finally show that they can ban xbox 360 to fix the Hard drive Crippling
Funny. Look, they only banned around 20-30k around march, but that still isn't 1% of a million....not saying that exactly 1m consoles were banned, but All of a sudden mw2 comes around, and close to holiday season/black friday, A sh!t load of consoles gets banned. Like you stated, 20-30k consoles were banned around march, but why couldn't it be that crap load of bans before? Why couldn't microsoft put their foot down earlier? I mean, I just find it a little too weird..
