According to a Remedy managing director Matias Myllyrinne, the studio wants to discuss the possibility of leaving the ending of its upcoming thriller Alan Wake off discs sent to press
That is not such a bad idea.
oops wrong post
Very soon reviewers will start reviewing demos only...
Umm wouldn't reviewers dock points for being confused on what the heck's going on?
yea but reviewers wouldnt spoil the ending because they dont know about it. Way to often you'll see tons of spoilers in game reviews
I just look at the score and unless it's below 5/10 I probably won't read the review.
That is well thought. However, is it useful? Maybe not. But then again, they could do like hideo kojima did for MGS4.
Great idea, it looks like theyre really serious on bringing us a truly fanatastic story. Cant wait.
We don't need people spoiling it for us.
That would be dumb. Its like removing the last chapter of a book or taking away the last 15 mins of a movie. Critics are meant to see the whole damn thing to say if its good or not. Your just messing with your own grade if you leave out the conclusion.
Well I expect reviews to be unfinished then. I mean, how can you score an incomplete game? REVIEw ---> PREVIEW
I don't really think it matters, no matter what Remedy does the full version will somehow be pirated and spoilers will be leaked.
By plugging up a potential source of a leak you may help to stop the full version getting leaked and maybe MS could use that version to track any pirates
So no reviewers will be finishing the game then?
It seems like most reviewers only play 5 minutes of a PS3 exclusive anyway
That's stupid. There's only so many ending it could be without the ending being total bullshit: Happily ever after, His wife dies, He dies, His wife is already dead, He doesn't have a wife, He's insane, It's a dream, He's actually a character in a book someone else is writing. It's not like any of those endings will really be a shock.
or maybe he's got nano-machines...
Especially when Silent Hill has done that.
or what if the entire time u learn that hes been playin himself on a PS3?
you guys even read that ?
Might not be a shock, but its pretty damn annoying when you know the ending while playing the game.
So its a mix between The Suffering And Bioshock?
taking the piss? so your paying £40 for a game that wont have the acctual ending ? And.... this game was orignaly for the pc lmfao and it took them like 4 years to acctually get this far and, NOW THERE SAYING IT WONT HAVE THE FU*KING ENDING ARE THEY TAKING THE FU*KING PISS LIKE ? ill tell u what this is, them being wankers, they wouldnt treat pc gamers like this and u know why ? cause pc gamers wouldnt take this fu*kin sh*te.
you didnt read the article huh idiot?
This is probably because they do not want people finding out it is on 5 DVDs.
lmfao aye man ano like, what people acctually dont know is that it has to come in a box set cause theres that many dvds
I think it's a good idea.
Well a lot of them reviewers don't even play the game through really. They do a few levels and then make their reviews. Pretty pathetic, but its a race against other reviewers to get theirs out first. Sad, but true. I think this is a good idea. They can review gameplay, story, all of it, but just not the ending, nothing can be spoiled or leaked.
Yeah, I actually give them credit for such a ballsy move. If anything, it gives me more faith in the game having a compelling storyline, but my main concern is whether or not the gameplay is actually their. If the story is good enough, it might be enough to make up for it.
Of the retail version and sell it as DLC
I think to get a review of a product the reviewer needs to see the entire thing. Especially when the ending is fundamental to the story. You couldn't test drive a car with no wheels, so why take away the ending. If the ending is terrible i would like to know before purchase so i don't invest and waist to much of my time to be disappointed. where as if its a good ending then all the review will say is "its a grate game" hardly spoiling if for me, and confirming that is worthwhile purchase
I think a missing ending is a lot different than missing wheels on a car. BTW, would you save your money if you knew the ending was bad? I think the adventure getting to the ending is the best part.
The reason why is because a car with no wheels can't be test driven. The fact that they can't see the ending doesn't mean they can't play it through. I mean, how long does it take for a reviewer to give their honest opinion on how good a game is. Just take a 10th of a point off, and keep it moving
that has to be one of the worst analogies. Anyhoo...at what point in time did we get to the place where it is all about reviewers. When did they become so privileged where developers are suppose to cater to them.....Is this the new law of the land?
they just trying to curb early copies from hitting the internet and spoiling the ending like mw2, odst have! this way untill you get the actual game ending is safe
Well, a bad ending can ruin the whole game. I don't think this is a good idea because an aspect of the game will be left out and reviewers will not have the complete experience.
first off, why do you care? you're not a reviewer. Second, GTA4 had a horrible ending and that didnt ruin the game. Not providing an ending for reviewers should not taint the aspect the game. Just because you don't know what happens doesn't mean you cant give a review about gameplay, graphics, sound, replay, or presentation. It's not a demo...it just doesnt give the ending. There's no argument here
Talk about lack of confidence in your product. If they leave out the ending for people who are REVIEWING the game, then the game should receive no review scores, and only written overviews of the game, a basic write-up---which is probably not what they want.
I agree with you that the ending sums up the game obviously. But as a reviewer you can analyze graphics, sound, story and everything else without finishing the game. Besides it would be a cool review to have them talk about the story and leave it as a cliffhanger. It would probably make me more excited.
DO IT! That's a fantastic idea...far too often is the ending leaked online and pirated. I highly doubt that those pirated copies never came from a press copy. It would be hilarious if they did this and everyone was DL'ing it and not seeing the ending.
