Sony Develops Film-Thin, Bending Display

In the race for ever-thinner displays for TVs, cell phones and other gadgets, Sony may have developed one to beat them all _ a razor-thin display that bends like paper while showing full-color video.

Sony Corp. released video of the new 2.5-inch display Friday. In it, a hand squeezes a display that is 0.3 millimeters, or 0.01 inch, thick. The display shows color images of a bicyclist stuntman and a picturesque lake.

Although flat-panel TVs are getting slimmer, a display that's so thin it bends in a human hand marks a breakthrough.

Sony said it has yet to decide on commercial products using the technology.

"In the future, it could get wrapped around a lamppost or a person's wrist, even worn as clothing," said Sony spokesman Chisato Kitsukawa. "Perhaps it can be put up like wallpaper."

I agree. The haters can say what they want, but there are very few true innovative companies left in the world, and Sony is one of them, and in my opinion they're in the top 10. Maybe even top 5.

Relax Billy boy.. no one is hating... No one is denied that Sony can innovate. I think Sony is one of the greatest company out there. I really love this idea.
All they have to do is figure out how to power the thing and figure out how to make memory as thing as that. Imagine pluggin this to your computer, downloading the news, a book, articles, videos, etc. and commute to work!? That would mark the end of paper books!

Address the memory and power issues + make it very afortable and we are set!

Kudos to Sony for this.

A wrist watch with a small battery and antenna on the underside to allow a wrist watch/ cell phone with bluetooth that you can connect to wirelessly for audio, while it pulls down media from your slingbox-like device to watch media and communicate on the fly. It would just be a cool high tech device, no matter whether it is practical or not

That is nuts, it bends. I wonder if the resolution and contrast will be any good. The future is going to be cool!
