DICE is "Dedicated" To Its PC Gamers

Gordan Van Dyke of DICE lays down some ground rules regarding Battlefield Bad Company 2 and dedicated servers.

Van Dyke writes:

"A lot of buzz has been floating around the internet lately about dedicated servers and we wanted to make sure our all our players have the best understanding of how Battlefield will be played on the PC. Since Battlefield 1942 DICE has used dedicated servers for all platforms. This formula has worked well, and still works well, for us and for the gaming community. We have stayed true to this practice and will continue this tradition into the upcoming title Battlefield Bad Company 2."

Dice think they're so damn clever poking at infinity ward like this, but they probably wont be laughing when their game gets pirated 10x more. Like seriously...

Pandamobile, you should know that torrenting is outdated compared to direct download links.

Haha I was thinking the same thing. But IW set themselves up for this, if I were DICE I'd be doing the same thing.

Find me one quote where DICE have actually taken a jab at IW.
Everything they've said so far is simply to reassure it's fanbase that they have no intention of removing dedicated servers.

With the way IW is screwing over PC gamers, I would not be suprise when MW2 gets pirated 10X more.

As much as i like dedicated servers on consoles it really really sucks when they take them down, i'd still be playing Battlefield 2 Modern Combat but apperently their are only 3 servers left and theyre always full. I know the article is about pc but the great thing about pc games with dedicated servers is you can usually host your own...and did anyone really think DICE wouldnt give PC gamers dedicated servers.

".and did anyone really think DICE wouldnt give PC gamers dedicated servers."

If you had suggested a month ago that Infinity Ward were dropping dedicated servers you would have been branded as clinically insane. The fact is these days you can't trust any developers. Sure DICE are making all the right noises but the "proof is in the pudding" as they say.

Not dedicated enough to get PC versions of games out on time or use them as the lead platform for games anymore though it seems.

With all the new PC tech they're shoving in Frostbite, I'm willing to bet PC is leading the way at DICE.

And I don't blame them for delaying 1943. They haven't shipped Frostbite on PC yet and they want to get it right. I'd take a 6 month delay over a half-assed rush job.

I'd rather have a proper development cycle that treats the PC as the technical lead and launches at the same time as console versions. At least Infinity Ward can do this. The dedicated servers thing is more or less just a poor development choice more than anything. A dedicated server system was up before and built up from previous COD games, this is just a move to make it more casual friendly. Nevermind it's pretty obvious the PC isn't the technical lead for frostbite, they haven't even released a PC game with it yet and have two console games released using it, nevermind the needless delays of Mirror's Edge on the PC and how bad of a port job it was. Outside of the physx gimmicks it had the exact same textures, models, lighting, ect as the console versions and the mouse controls were a total afterthought and feel unresponsive.

Go dice lay some verbal smackdown on the love couple Activision and IW.
