PC Gaming is taking a turn for the worst.

GB writes: This has been a recurring theme from doomsayers and large developers alike for, oh, 10 years. Spurred on by false alarms and an increasing number of consoles in people's homes, there have been some who have been absolutely convinced that 'PC Gaming is Dying!' And, we can see that as the PC gaming market has thrived over the past few years, and showing no signs of letting up. However, it has come to the attention of many that the naysayers may finally be right.

I am not too sure whether i will say PC gaming is dead... m not too sure about it actually.

JsonHenry2947d ago

It will never die. It started gaming, and it will live on as long as there is gaming to be done.

Serial_EDX2947d ago

Really.. Thats funny cause a few hours ago I was playing Fiesta *BTW amazing MMO*

Serial_EDX2947d ago

okay may I ask whats with the disagrees?

dirthurts2947d ago

pc's= pc gaming ( whether it be the sims or crysis), as long as there are pc's, people will play games on them, and those that care about graphics etc will upgrade, logical evolution of technology. Have you seen the number of pc recommendation threads recently?, everyone wants a decent gaming rig, only those that can't afford one are the ones that diss

If you are on a budget hit me up i'll PM you a cheap gaming setup.

I am a pc gamer and there are so many good games coming it's not funny

Bioshock 2
Mass Effect 2
Dragon Age Origins
Starcraft 2
Command and Conquer 4
Supreme Commander 2
Doom 4
The Witcher 2
Aliens Vs Predator
Fallout: New Vegas
Diablo 3
Mirrors Edge 2

Alot of those are multiplats, but some of the best games are multiplat, and for anyone who has played both the console versions, and the pc versions of any multiplat game knows which one is better

badz1492946d ago

you're right! I only play exclusives on my PS3 and multiplats on my PC because I CAN and I have quite a PC to run them better although I always try to play them with a controller because I hate gaming with k+m! I play games like GRID and SHIFT with a USB wheel! ...and I connect my PC to my TV!

@1.1, actually, the first home video games were played on a console in 1972. The first mass produced home computer didn't come out until 1975. TECHNICALLY gaming got its start on some ginormous old mainframe somewhere, but PCs have no more in common with those freakish old things than consoles do.

Just like your credibility.

gameseveryday2947d ago

yeah actually the article makes a valid point about how money is important in the PC gaming downfall.and of course piracy.

Assassin Nawabi2947d ago

"there is less money in PC gaming than console gaming"
what does that actually mean? :O

williamkenny2947d ago

It means that developers get less turnover, and therefore less profit when making pc games compared to console games.

ThanatosDMC2947d ago (Edited 2947d ago )

Could be piracy. They should just make sure to distribute it on Steam. They keep their security updated and intact.

Supreme Commander 2 and Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3! Unless they will be coming on the PS3 since it does have keyboard and mouse support.

Nihilism2946d ago (Edited 2946d ago )

I think you'll find that for a long time, no sales charts have included digital distribution sales. they are based on soundscan etc: retail sales. Valve makes about 500 million a year from DD, so does blizzard ( with world of warcreaft), you could probably double the pc sales figure due to them and impulse and direct 2 drive

@Rashid Sayed

"i mean console gaming is much more profitable to the developers. "

I don't know who told you that but it isn't true. Activision pays sony 500 million a year in royalties to be able to publish games on their console. No such fee exists on pc. Larger developers and smaller ones see exponential profit, especially with DD. Bioshock sold 2.2 million copies, just over 1 million was pc sales, which means the other 2 consoles sold much less + the devs made less money from each sale. That's just one example, but there are many others. L4D for example, sold what, 10 million? most of that will have been on pc, probably 70%. Liker i said above though, that was ony retail sales counted, the DD numbers could easily have doubled the number of pc sales for bioshock

frostypants2946d ago (Edited 2946d ago )

@4.3, no, when developers report actual sales, they include ALL channels. It is a well known fact in developer circles than consoles push more unit sales for games in most categories. Activision sold 13 million copies of Modern Warfare...that's their own numbers...TOTAL, all channels (physical, digital...trust me, they know these numbers to the T), period. About 12 million of that was for consoles. There's no mystery or hidden numbers on that front. They know what they sold.
