If you're running Windows Vista on your PC, then this will be good news for you. According to Carl Nelson of the HCW Tech Blog, firmware 1.80 will let you share media on your Vista-running PC with the PS3. Well, Vista does support DLNA after all.
don't have vista, but updated to windows media player 11, and now I can access everything on my computer, its crazy, didnt really expect or want this, cuz i got an external hdd, but hell, ill take it.
for the people that haven't wasted money on vista, it works well with XP
I didn't waste money...I got it for free :)
how do you think lol
maybe he is captain sparrow
Yea it works great, im using WMP11 on XP. Its awsome. I just wish more video formats were supported. Nearly all my videos are in WMV.
watch MS fix that soon;)
Man I really hope they do!
if you buy windows it works with ps3 !
what happened to linux ?
still using my ps3 as a games console ........!
in my eyes it will never be a pc!
Did I just read a good reason to get Vista except DX10?
Only need to get both of them and it's all set then... in a year or two when I got enough money to spend.
I may have to actually pickup the latest and greatest version of Nero (I'm still working with Nero 6... I know... behind the times... ;-)
I'm just glad they got past the it's a pc thing and realized that streaming media is the way to go and that the ps3 is not a good media server.
to the TRUE Next-Gen media world!
Let's see get some more games for the PS3 library, have Sony offer music/video (HD) downloads and update the PS3 to play streamed music while playing games and the system will be complete!
I like the fetaure of being able to copy files from the PC to the PS3! Sony needs to continue this effort and stop spending time getting Epson printers to print photos stored on the PS3.
If my computer is affected by Trojan or virus which cannot detected by Vista or Anti-spy and Anti-Virus software unluckily,I would like to ask will the virus or Trojan be tranmitted to PS3? Will they affect PS3 operation?
Viruses are designed to affect specific OS or programs. If you've got a virus on a PC and copy the infected file on a mac, it won't do anything.
Same goes here. A PC virus won't be able to do anything to the PS3's OS.
I would say it wouldn't be impossible, but as long as you have anti-virus on your pc I wouldn't worry about it. It would have to be a pc virus that sent a ps3 virus through upnp to the ps3. You are at greater risk of getting a virus surfing the web on your ps3 then streaming media from your pc.
how do u connect the ps3 with the pc exactly?? through the network card?? pls help and dont make fun *lol*
You need both your ps3 and pc hooked up via the same router wireless or wired (via network cards). For best performance your pc should be wired to the router and your ps3 can be wired or wireless. You will have the best performance if everything is wired, but if you just want to stream music and pictures wireless is fine for both. Make sure you have windows media player 11 installed. It should detect your ps3. You may have to open up some ports on your firewall of your pc. Xbox.com has some good instructions on what firewall ports to open. I realize it's for a ps3, but the same rules apply.
