Ps3 upscaling old ps2/ps1 games
I'll wait for direct-feed comparison shots.
A comparison would have been better. I would be interested in the FFXII comparison as I havent got round to buying this game amongst fears the PS3 wont play it properly and it would look crap.
How's this for a comparison....it was at the source
I don't know how you do it. If you don't get one soon I might start a fundraising campaign to help you out. I'll go door to door selling M&M's if I have to.
I'll be the first to buy some of those M&M's. Deep, buddy, you really need a PS3. Go knock off a 7/11 or something.
it makes it look better it doesnt mess the picture up. and if u have the us playstation it will play any ps1 and ps2 game no questions asked
it went up at 12 midnight
I got my update at 11:30 PM est
Crash Bandicoot looks better now. The update not only upscales it, but smooths out some of the jaggies as well. Very Nice!
Just threw in FFX... wow wat an improvement. When i first got my ps3 and played ffx I was disappointed but those movie scenes in 1080i are amazing!
Sounds good. cant wait to try it out
Lets face it, backward compatibility may be great but playing SD titles (upscaled or not) on an HD display looks crap. I personally hate jaggies so all my last gen games can stay on my SD screen along with my PS2 and Xbox. My HD display is reserved for my 360 only...and for my PS3 when/if I get one.
It actually smooths out the jaggies. I know Deep already posted it, but obviously, you missed it so here: http://n4g.com/ViewComImage...
...and they make last gen textures look washed out. Defend this crap all you like but if upscaling was everything it needed to be then why do we need an HD standard with regards to movies? DVD looks fine upscaled but it does not even begin to compare to HD or Blu-Ray DVD on a 1080p display.
it's another free update that doesn't brick systems.still plays more games for BC than 360. now where's my copy of rr type 4?that should look good.
how the heck did this get approved?? what is the point of showing 1080p upscaled picture with a jpeg from a 0.3 megapixel camera phone?? duuuhh
Does anyone know what the "Double Scale" in the DVD upscale section means? BTW: Kingdom hearts looks great and so did the movie I just put in to check out.
Ive just been watching Star Wars - Empire Strikes Back on DVD - upscaled by my PS3 and i have to say, WOW, just WOW.
Gta sa Looks nice
Can anyone tell me if upscaling works on component at 1080i?
yes mate i am running it now
Yes, it does...but only for games. 1080x upconversion for DVD's requires HDMI (unfortunately.)
Not even 720p on component for DVD's?
From what I have gathered upscaling only applies when using HDMI.
Sorry guys posted wrong pictures I made a zip file for you all to download from that news thread with the pics its about 68MB or so also a link to a good comparison thread, enjoy.
why did he post GOW2 pictures... doesn't that game actually have an HD mode?? i'd understand posting MGS or FFXII but Gow?? c'mon.... great update, lame post.
the so-called HD-mode of GOW2 is actually 480p and was possible @PS2, not 720p or 1080i/p, so this update scales it even higher;)
time to go buy some greatest hits from ps2 :) talk about a big library of games. Is there a diff in upscaling between Pal And NA versions of the ps3?
Check it, direct images here! It's amazing!
im at work though but its great to hear what Sony has done. I'm looking forward to update my PS3 later. Can't wait to play Burnout revenge again. Edit: @ Alvadr I better watch star wars myself. I have so many dvds unwatched since i got PS3 except simpsons and futurama. Can't wait for that ;)
here are some photo's: http://www.ps3-media.nl/nie... just click the download link in the middle of the article
The PS3 is getting more attractive by the minute. Now, all they need is more current gen games.
...PAL PS3 and FFXII ? Working like a champ? :D
to get home from work & try GoW2, MGS3, RE4 & GTA San Andreas! Yup Yup!!
please. That dumb site isnt letting me log in.
anyone working on Res. Evil 4 comparison? I'm surprised no one posted anything yet. That game is pretty jiggi-ful on HD 480p.
From the pics i've seen the update doesn't look very good at all, Things are too fuzzy alot of background stuff loses its definition and gets all fuzzy. and why is it only 1080P can you upscale to 720p? cause it would be a much better thing for any scaler or software scaler to mark it up from 480i/p content to 720p content instead of all the way up to 1080p.. all so the 2nd link in that article doesn't work for me, and every single picture on the first link says bandwidth used photobucket. I haven't tried ps1 or ps2 games out yet under the new update by the way.
..oh yea (Kool- Aid Man)
I got the update and I must admit I saw an immediate difference. Upscaling didn't matter to me as long as I could play the games, but it's a nice extra to have.
Nice to see cool firmware updates. Am still waiting for in game xmb access though. I also want REAL ipod recognition and better organization for music files. Video is ok but because i have a lot of music the organization system is kinda annoyin especially when u cnt create playlists
not only does it recognize Ipods... It also charges them.
It upscaled psone graphics! Always good news!
...upscaling does not equal better graphics... you cant make something from nothing... they are sd images and anyone running a hd set knows that it looks like poo poo all upscaling does is take a little image and make it bigger with as little distortion as possible... however there is still DISTORTION no matter what... shouldnt sony be more worried about new ps3 games? i mean if some one really wanted to play GoW II and they are one of the few gamers that dont have a ps2 they could go out and buy a slim one for like $100... and odds are if they are playing it on a hdtv it (the tv) could/would do the upscaling itself... no need to spend $600 to play ps2 games in almost-but-really-not-hd-just- blurry-sd.
