Examiner: Although Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is a big step up from the original, it went through the development cycle relatively quick.
Engine was already up and running plus these guys are talented so something like this is do-able for them. Probably might even be quicker for a sequel knowing that they have the biggest feature added to UC2 (Multiplayer) already set and done in a pretty good fashion.
They can just build off of what they have and make the Campaign, Co-Op and Multiplayer even better.. if that's even possible :) Uncharted 2. Day. Fvcking. One!
They aren't called NAUGHTY GODS fer nothin'
This game is how sequels are suppose to be. ND you guys did great and diserve all the praise and hype for your game.
good for n.d i hope they get game of the year for this kinda work
Wow 18 months really good job!
Awesome work Naughty Gods, still amazed with first one
That is really good, well Uncharted 1 was stunning and an under rated gem but Uncharted 2 did so much that it's not even funny. I want them to take more time with U3 mainly because I feel sorry for other studios who have tried to catch up U1 and not managed it now U2 has raised the bar there's no hope.
lol @Silicon Knights (Too Human)
Also lol at Splinter Cell and Alan Wake. :)
lol @ Gears2 bigger better and buh buh buh it looks the sayyme
@1.1 Remedy is a good developer they're just having a hard time coding for outdated hardware
Holy Hell 18 Months! Sheesh these guys need to go on vacation
so obviously the dev time will be much shorter. KZ3, Infamous 2 etc will not only be out much sooner than people think but they will also cost less to make. This is not rocket science. As has been said a long time now. Invest not just for now but in the future as the PS3 is now and the future. Other devs will slowly understand this as this gen progress just like last gen. This is what i have been saying since 2006 that some devs are investing for the future when people were saying that the PS3 is expensive to devlop for and they are wasting their resources. Initial dev cost is high but they will reap much more as the PS3 lifecycle progress. Those who made the initial investment in PS3 dev will be in a much stronger position than those that didn't because those that didn't will be left behind and will have to play catch up. As the saying goes. No pain no gain. All good things come to those that wait. Those who are shortsighted will only gain short term. Just look at the freaking PS2. People b1tched about it being expensive to dev just like the PS3 but now is very cheap compare to current gen and devs are still reaping the benefits from investing in it 9 years ago. Does anyone see the picture here?. This is part of Sony's 10 year plan. Devs knows this. This is why they have confidence in their investment in PS game dev. The PS1 and PS2 is living proof.
Exactly. Bubbles to you good sir.
With all the experience and techniques learned in developing uncharted 2, im sure uncharted 3 would be faster to make and better at the same time.
.....Halo ODST development actually began in the early part of 2008, if what i have read/heard from the developers on websites etc, which would push it to over a year, if my maths add up (i'll edit with a source or two shortly) Not that it matters anyway, or has anything to do with the fact that Naughty Dog, regardless of the 'engine' being in place or any other attempt to make their work seem less impressive, should be applauded for what they have created, which is a game that could very well be regarded as the classic from this generation. Many developers should take note, THIS is how you combine a solid story with great gameplay and amazing graphics, and multiplatform devs should especially take note, that if ND can create something like this in such a short amount of time, then why can't the majority push multiplatform games to the same kinda limits? This game, along with the likes of Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo, is a testiment to what can be achieved on the Playstation 3, which simply cannot be done on another console (and i do happen to think the 360 is a fine console too btw). It may not sell in Halo numbers, it may not catch the eye in the way a Halo could, but by god this game is immense, and whether it sells 500 or 500,000,000, nothing will change that fact, certainly not some pissy little 14yr old fanboy sat in his room with no friends inserting their manhood into a console thinking its gods gift, arguing over how the latest Generic Sports Game 26 has 5 more pixels in the 360 version than the PS3 version. Those guys really need to get a grip and...well...die :)
Multi plat will never be as good as exclusives given the same resources to work on. Multi-plats is always dev from the lowest denominator and each same console gen version is made to be the same. I suspect most multi-devs look more on the money side than art which is why they are mulit in the first place and why they generally never push a specific console to their limits. This is why i will always support multi-consoles and especially console exclusives.
In 18 months time(ish) 'Uncharted 3' will be out to!!! ;-D The PU$$YS on the internet will never stop the PS3 and SONY;)
And bots still waiting for alan wakeZZzzzzzzzz....... U_U
alan wath? ooh wait, , im still -waiting- for the game, (cpu) :L lol
First UC came out interview w/ ND rep said that they wanted it to be bigger/longer than what it was but they felt it was too much to do for beginner title on the PS3. So I not surprised at not a lengthy development time they prob had all their ideas put together already from things they wanted to do last UC and the engine was solid just needed to build upon it. They worked hard first time second time pays off. Claps hands to ND GJ.
I am sure the tag of highest rated console exclusive warms ND's heart and they deserve it. Those that strive for the best and work hard to achieve it should be rewarded. The great thing though with ND is that they didn't rest on their laurels. I am sure they are going to pick up the ante yet again with U3. I m pretty sure they will recieve the game of the year award for U2 as well as dev of the year. They deserve it. I know this because i played U1 14 times and i think they were robbed that year.
Jak 4 confirmed. ND must've been doing something else in pre-production between that time.
They already have their naughty dog engine running at a high level so using it to make a sick Jak game isn't out of the question. I'd like to see another new IP out of them though.
Don't get your hopes up. At least not for an ND-made Jak game. That just isn't how Naughty Dog works. Just look at their past and you'll see....not very likely that ND returns to Jak. Playstation was released in '95. In 1996, Naughty Dog releases Crash Bandicoot. A year later Crash 2 comes, followed by Crash 3 a year later and a year after that we get CTR (god I loved that game) in 1999. Playstation 2 is released in 2000. ND takes a year from releasing games making the next generation transition and in 2001 we're introduced to Jak and Daxter. In that year that ND didn't release a game (2000), we did get another Crash game come out, but that was made by another developer as ND was giving up Crash and moving onto the PS2 introducing a new franchise to do so. In 2003, ND returns with the sequel to Jak, followed up by the third in 2004. Then a year later they try to recreate that CTR success with a Jak racing game in 2005. Then ND is off again and won't be another 2 years before we see a Naughty Dog game. The PS3 arrives in 2006. In 2007 Naughty Dog returns with the oh-so-awesome Uncharted. Once again, beginning the new generation with a new franchise and a new face to represent them as their own personal mascot for that system. The Jak franchise continued, but once again through the hands of other developers. Now 2 years later we get the amazing sequel in UC2. Then maybe we'll see Uncharted 3 in holiday of 2010 or maybe 2011. Then who knows....could we see Drake in a kart racer? lol Anyways, as you see, their M.O. is to create their own 'mascot' each generation and stick with that then move on with the next generation while allowing smaller studios to continue the franchises to make a name for themselves. So it's very doubtful, and would be outside ND's norm, that we see an ND-made Jak game ever again. Plus we'll see nothing but more Uncharted from them this generation. Then when PS4 comes around, they'll drop Uncharted and start something new.
They exlained that Crash was for PS1, Jak was for PS2 and now Uncharted is for PS3 =) however don't rule out the jak franchise from continuing on PSP, since its basically a portable PS2 =)
Oh I definitely don't rule it out continuing on the PSP (or hell, maybe we even get a Jak PS3 game), the wording of what I said is where one needs to pay attention. I simply said we'll never see a Naughty Dog-made Jak game again. If the franchise does continue it will be by other developers like High Impact Games.
This game is so damn amazing. I hope they share this engine with Sucker Punch for 2inFAMOUS
Forget that. I think Sucker Punch's engine is great. It worked very well for inFamous, I thought. inFamous was lacking in the gameplay department, not the technical department. The gameplay just got old and repetitive after a while, that's the only thing that needs to be improved.
You guys can't forget team size, the team size of ODST was pretty small. I am not gonna make any claims cause I don't know the numbers, but I am pretty sure Naughty Dog's team was bigger, maybe much bigger. Anyways, I can't wait for UC2. FDP!!!!
Saw it in the bonuses =) I'm guessing for U2 there were more, but nothing like GTAIV or anything, its still relatively small i believe
They're Naughty Dog, aka "Naughty GODS". What else would you expect?
Great Uncharted 2 comes out and I have 3 tests for the next 3 days. >.< How am I gonna wait till Friday? o_0
also took 2 years back in 2007 if we are just considering console launch to point x for dev time.
It makes you wonder what these japanese developers are doing all day long when a ND can churn out a AAA like uncharted so quick.
How long has FF and GT been in development for. Its almost ridculous.. Finish your games already!
Are you all sure about that? I'm pretty sure I've read them say several times that this game is on an upgraded engine from Drake's Fortune, and was also updated during the development cycle.
I wish they could continue releasing more games like this, just like we get summer block buster movies...every summer. They can alternate between sci-fi action and their current Indiana Jones style play. They should develop another universe of sci-fi as their story telling is top notch I have no doubt they would succeed. The graphics engine is more than good enough to last many more years. The whole Uncharted package is perfect! These guys know what they are doing and I am aching to play Uncharted 2!
And its the best looking game on any console...and possible GoTY... Now we just have to quote these guys anytime a multiplat dev complains about PS3's hardware =P "but its hard to code for =(" "eh....nnnnnnooooo its not =)"
