Brand New, Real Time" Damage Coming to Gran Turismo 5

gtplanet.net : We've got another new interview with Kazunori Yamauchi via GameBlog.fr, and while it's not as personal or as thorough as Xavier Ocampo's, it does produce two interesting and encouraging statements. First, he reiterates the updated damange modeling in Gran Turismo 5 - reinforcing my personal suspicion that negative reactions to the damage shown off at GamesCom was the primary decision for a 2010 release. On the subject of release dates, Yamauchi confirms that is a decision in the hands of Sony Computer Entertainment, since "both versions [PAL and NTSC, presumably] will be finished at the same time".

I guess competition is good.. according to the gametrailers review of forza 3, the game is good and got a 9.2 score but they seems a bit disappointed with the car damage.. while it existed, cars never flipped over always landing on their tires ready to continue racing, damage was pretty much the same accross the board..

so Turn 10 really only did one thing right... lit a fire under polyphony digital's butt

I didn't like this part "KY: You would notice that in Gran Turismo for PSP, game progression was accelerated. Before this, it took hours and hours to collect all cars and complete all license tests, this is not true anymore. This is a trend we are considering the possibility for GT5."

Like WTF, i don't want to play GT5 for a day and have all the cars and licenses that would RUIN the damn game, that's why the friggin PSP version got sh1tty reviews! i expect not simply a game where the cars look and drive alot like real life, i also expect to have to earn the best cars, earn my licenses and earn that damn platinum trophy.

They already said getting cars in GT PSP will be easier since you have less time to play (battery life and what not). They will probably speed up the process for GT5 for like licence tests and stuff. Those usually took several hours to get done, and they will probably cut that down so people can actually hop into GT World a lot quicker.

just how great remains to be...seen/played.

Given the sheer amount of time invested in this game I expect no less than perfection. That includes time of day, weather, damage/trading paint, smoke/dust effects (this includes leaving marks on the surface from not braking enough around corners), reactionary AI (someone cuts off another driver, they react accordingly), sparks/flames (be it from accident or grazing a barrier), etc....

Forza does not have most of those things but I expect them from GT5. GT5 wants to be the definitive racing sim and brings things better than real life. These are things that are a part of real life driving.

The time invested had better not be time wasted!

good things are always good

lol

cant wait to get this game

the thing is
GOW3 and this game are coming out at the same day
one game well get delayed
which one do you guys thinks well get delayed ??

cmrbe3179d ago

The Gametrailer review obviously came after the offical release date for GT5 was announced. Again i stress official release date because GT5 never had an official released date so technically was never delayed.

PD i suspect knew after Gamescom that damage is a big deal to many and therefore wanted to work more on it. Forza has nothing to do with it. PD march to their own tune and don't look over their shoulders like Turn 10.

PD are leaders and trend setters unlike Turn 10.

KY: I will probably surprise you but, since more than 10 years I design Gran Turismos we never told ourselves that we were the best, the numbers one. As far as I search in my memories, I can’t remember a moment when we felt satisfied with what we’ve achieved because we always want to make it better.

Take note Turn 10

Real time - weapon change?

WenisWagon3179d ago

I experienced 'real time damage' in GTAIV, this is nothing new.

I at least hope that S license is at least a little bit easier to attain. I never got the S license in any GT game. In GT3 and GT4, I had every license except for S, and completed every race except for the ones requiring an S license. That license was impossible for me.

"I experienced 'real time damage' in GTAIV, this is nothing new."

They were not referring to what your boyfriend does to you in bed.

"GB: More than 10 years after Gran Turismo’s debut, what will you record from Polyphony Digital’s evolution?
KY: I will probably surprise you but, since more than 10 years I design Gran Turismos we never told ourselves that we were the best, the numbers one. As far as I search in my memories, I can’t remember a moment when we felt satisfied with what we’ve achieved because we always want to make it better. That being said, maybe that when everything will be over, the day I will not make video games anymore, I will feel this satisfaction… but this is not in the near future."

I wish turn 10 would start thinking like this!

GT5

will b the definitive racer of this generation

Real life pales in comparison to the graphics real damage and real physics not ta mention bug free (100% sure it will b since Sony has QA that puts quality over turning a quick buck)

Turn ten eat yur heart out

phosphor1123179d ago

Also, it appears that Forza 3's photomode compresses their images making them look like ass.

Lulz.

thor3179d ago

Err... whilst image compression CAN make an image look worse with artifacts, it's not going to suddenly make low-detail textures and poor lighting. To get a decent photomode shot you need to make sure the lighting's just right, the camera angle's just right, there's a sufficient amount of motion blur and so on.

While reading through that and going to the main area I came across this ~

The top down looks horrible....It really does

beardpapa3179d ago

^^ wow just wow
This is a GT thread, but i just clicked on the links you posted, and feel the need to comment.
Probably Forza 3 is fantastic in it's community aspects, livery editor and so on. But i can only say it looks massively underwhelming compared to what Turn 10 and some fanboys wanted us to believe in terms of graphics and immersion.
The driver in the beginning of the video is a joke.
The car model in the 3 short shots is much better than in game, dissolving the illusion.
I have the impression that the car is floating (i've had this same impression in every video except with cokpit view)
Light reflections on the car and the track or nearly environment are different, creating an impression of unreal or gamey.
Maybe i'm blind, but i see F3 light years away of GTp in the most important aspect of such a type of game: the sense of illusion is broken at every moment, at least in this video.
