BeefJack: Demon's Souls Review

BeefJack writes: "I'm usually not one for hard games, but I'll occasionally, when feeling especially masochistic, set a game to the hardest setting. Demon's Souls is the sort of game that doesn't have a difficulty slider or an easy mode, but seems to always be set to 'Absolute Brutality'.

Granted, at first, I was turned off to the game, dying quickly on the first few enemies outside (and once inside) the tutorial. It's great for people that love pain, and having each hard lesson beaten into them, like when to block. But that's what the combat is all about; having precise timing, knowing when to strike, when to dodge, and when to heal. Although there were a handful of times when I felt that the dodge move took too long to finish or I couldn't transition fast enough to blocking, these were few enough." (Demon's Souls, PS3) 8.8/10
