GT: First things first: Demon's Souls is hard.
I can't wait to pick up my copy. That will be the first thing i will do when i wake up.
well this score is surprising. now i really am wanting the game right now
i dont understand why they just couldnt give the game a 9.. its just a .1 difference.. sounds to me they were like "dayumm this game deserves a 9 its pretty good.. but oh well lets just give it 8.9 for whatever reason"
Does .1 matter? I see where you're coming from but at least they didn't give it a flat 8. (they should have just gave it an 9 tho)
yeah .1 does matter.. because as you can see it was too hard for GT to add .1 to the score..
Seems Gametrailers arithmetics are a little bit on the slow side.
as long as you have the patience for it. I myself, give it a 9.5, with very little to complain about.
Stop crying about the 8.9, please.
whenever I am asked to rate something on a 1-10 scale, I always use a decimal. http://advertising.microsof... ^^^ stuff like this is why its hard to trust reviews these days, not talking about this review or game but just in general. Especially the well known sites, with all the ads on them.
GameTrailers is the site that spent the first two years of the PS3's life: * Intentionally using incorrectly setup video settings for PS3 captures to ensure that side by side comparisons looked worse for the PS3 version * Had staff from the site mock people who complained about the screwed up video captures with a "Nya nya nya! You can't stop us!" tone and attitude * Used higher compression on PS3 screen captures so they would lose detail and have more artifacts * Captured PS3 games at weird resolutions and then scaled them introducing jaggies and other artifacts that weren't in the actual PS3 game screens * Was caught red handed fabricating a PS3 vs 360 game comparison to ensure the PS3 version looked worse That is just the stuff that is well known. It isn't hard to imagine how much more garbage and lies they didn't get caught pulling. No one care what the clowns at such a POS site have to say about this amazing AAA PS3 game.
Honestly, I think review websites have the highest standards for PS3 simply because of all the quality games the developers (for the PS3) put out. The highest standards Xbox 360 have to compare to are Halo 3 and Gears of War 2 - what game has topped that and set the bar for the Xbox 360? Since Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 have ventured the world, all games from here on out better look on par with either Killzone 2 and Uncharted or reviewers of the PS3 will slap on the B+ score and call it a day...
Anything in between a .5 and a whole number is arbitrary. What's the difference between an 8.5 and an 8.6? In any case, great score for what seems like a great game.
I've imported it to Europe from Canada. It shipped yesterday. I want it now :( I can't wait :)
again with there 0.1 from a nine and to the people that say its just a0.1 stfu they gave ninja gayden 2 a 9.8 and gears of war 2 a 9.8 and halo a 10 but guess what its not on the 360. on another note this game should be bad ass looks like one of the best rpgs this year
I've been convinced to get this game day one since a LONG time ago. I don't need any more reviews to make up my mind. And, no matter what negatives reviews mention from now on, they won't change my mind. I'm not saying this is a bad review, because it's not, but I mean in general... Demon's Souls ftw! Day one purchase! *************** Edit: What, what the hell... Today is October 6th?! So... that means...?!!??... ~runs to GameStop~ ***************
By the way, you can kill the Demon Vanguard. But you NEED to take off ALL your armor to be fast enough to dodge it's attacks. It'll take a long time to kill him because you're still too weak but attack his back side. Death comes if he flies and you're under him, you're near a wall, you're attacking his front or side or if you get hit by the fatal back swing he does when you're behind him. Just be patient and dont force it. Then you get lots of special loot and then it's a fight against the Dragon God.... well... good luck! HAHAHA... you all will DIE!!! I watched the vid review. So what were the cons of the game??? The story was pretty much dead on for a hero wanting to acquire power or to save a kingdom.
@ Thanatos. Just picked this game up and feel like from all I've seen and read about this title, I should say something like: "We who are prepared to Die, Salute you.."
RAWR Awesome. Love video reviews
That is the exact score I was predicting from GT. :P
I think it's a pretty fair review. I think this is the kind of game that really varies by experience. I'm getting kinda anxious and scared regarding this game's difficulty. I just hope the new games nowadays hasn't spoiled me that much and hopefully I get that old school instinct back.
Yes it's hard, but as long as you just accept the fact that you are going to die and often, you will enjoy the game quite well. No death feels cheap (which can't be said about most games out there) and you can see where you screwed up. Warning. Once you beat the game the first time, the difficulty jumps dramatically in New Game+. The good news, you get to keep everything from your last playthroughs.
I am actualy geting some anxiety over it. I am sure it will be a blast, i'm just freaking out on the jerks jumping in my room and raping me cause I am a noob at it. Nothing breaks my controller faster than losing treasure. Nothing. Anyways, I will be on at 5:30 PST tomorrow evening. Anyone want to run around like idiots together and give this sweet looking game a shot then add me as a friend. PSN = BeOneWithTheGun. Cheers.
I was fearing this game, especially the part about losing all of your souls if you can't reach your blood-stain. Well, it happened to me tonight and I just kind of said to myself "well, that sucks..." and jumped right back into the game. I wasn't mad at the game, because I knew that I got reckless for a split second and it was all my fault. And as you progress through a level, you open up gates / doorways that were closed be for. These short cuts get you right back to where you last left off real quick. I'm having a blast! The message system is amazing. The only things that still freak me out are black phantoms, which you can deal with a number of ways - from suiciding in the Nexus to stay in Soul form (Black Phantoms can't break in unless you are human), learning the Banish spell to send them back home, etc Don't worry about the difficulty. Just be patient, leave useful messages to get "recommended" (in which you'll get an instant health refill), and learn from your mistakes.
It's interesting to see people so excited for this game, I remember I got it when it first came out and really I was just going out on a limb, there wasn't much information about it other than Wikipedia and some minor media coverage it still turned out to be one of my favourite games of all time.
I heard about it from a friend got it shortly after the Asian release. He spoke about it so glowingly, I decided I should give it a try and I'm glad I did. Like you, I also put it in my all-time favorites.
I can't see this game breaking more than a million copies though.
whats with all the invisible disagree? If you folks disagree come out n state your reasons. I agree with Major_ Tom its not gonna sell too well simply because alot of people are gonna be put off by the difficulty of the game. A good game is not determined by sales there are many good games which don't sell its a shame but that's how it is.
It's one of those games that deserves the "blockbuster" sales, but yet, fails to achieve those numbers. With how long the game was on back-order on all the import sites, you would think a million is a certain achievement on it's own.
I also wish a game like this would sell more. Then again, I hope it doesn't sell to the point of something like COD or Halo. By then, we'll have Demon's Souls 6 with a few changes. More often than not, games that are "Gems" for some reason don't sell to the mass consumers. Shadow of the Colossus comes to mind.
Great score. Looks like the best RPG this year.
Demon's Souls might be one of the few good "current gen" RPGs if you think about it lol By "Good" I mean innovative, different, and most of all HARDCORE. This game is not for the weak. I say that now, but once I start playing and die 20 times I'll invent new curse words. lol
i think theres an 90% chance of you dying to the first boss ^^
First boss? If you mean the tutorial level's boss, then there's like a 99.999999999% chance of dying. In fact, you're supposed to die. If you mean the first boss that you actually have to beat in order to continue with the game (Phalanx), then it's really really easy. I never had any difficulties against him. Just prepare for the fight by playing through 1-1 a few times, getting some crescent moon grass's to heal during the fight, and some firebombs because the little mini-phalanx's are really weak against fire, and just make sure you use your guard and your stamina intelligently. You'll be fine.
it's funny because the 0.0000001% of players who did die thank to this boss were greated by ANOTHER HARDER boss 5 secondes later... Yeah it's funny ....
