GameDaily writes: "That said, embrace the experience developer Naughty Dog has crafted, because it is one of this generation's best. A tried-and-true system seller, Uncharted 2 is the reason we play video games".
No, not good enough I understand complaining about the camera but the snow effects not being realistic, tell me another game were you seen better snow
have to agree... when you go so far as to complain about your steps not leaving footprints in snow then you know this game is perfect lol
this is gamesdaily now we have to wait for edge
GameDaily is a really low-brow, silly website that gets hits being controversial, and this review is a bit flawed, but it's not as bad as some of the others that have scored the game 9's... At least GameDaily is more consistent. They didn't give 10's to Halo 3 or Gears 2 either, which if they had you could argue they've got obvious double standards across the PS3 and 360 for this type of action game.
Thats ridiculous. I have a hard time calling any game reviewer credible in this generation. No one reports on anything relevant to me... Would I care if the snow print doesn't leave a giant streak? NO I wouldn't. They are simply looking for something to whine about. They don't focus on the actual experience I'll have!
http://www.n4g.com/News-156... so what can u expect.. this is what they had to say: "People are just upset because they are fanboys and I gave MGS4 and 8/10"
put it on 360 it wud of got a 10! why do sites do this!? its f**king SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! and why is he taking a close look to put the game down???.....
While 9/10 is a great score and no complaints about it, I agree with many of the posters above. Snow footprints, what the hell? Its a shame games reviewers want to take themselves that seriously that they won't simply enjoy a game but critically analyze such minor details. If you want to bash the realism of the game, why not just go all out say "AND HOW COME WHEN NATHAN GETS SHOT HE ISN'T WRITTHING AROUND ON THE FLOOR IN PAIN WITH A BULLET LOGDED IN HIS ARM!?"
C'mon Chris Buffa at least be a man and show your name. It's not like you haven't shown your unprofessional journalism before.
in gametrailers, they said the camera programmer deserves an award, and the snow felt really real.
They started from 10 and then dug for reasons why it isn't a 10, and came up with snow prints and the camera isn't perfect? So it was impossible to get a 10. Should be an article entitled "Why Uncharted 2 isn't as perfect as everyone says it is". They didn't review the game fairly or objectively, their score was in place before they played it. Terrible site, wouldn't recommend.
A perfect score does not mean a perfect game. It just means a game pushes boundaries and expands on good concepts and makes new ones.
lol I don't care what scores these guys give. They suck. PERIOD.
Good score, but I can't take a reviewer seriously when he brings up metacritic at the beginning of the review. They obviously aren't confident enough to review the game without referring to what real reviewers think about it.
talking about nitpicking, here we have the saddest out of all!! if there's anything wrong with the "game" itself thus hindering the experience, yes, I'll agree deducting some marks but for this game, they chose to deduct a point on the SNOW?? teh fvcking SNOW?? how many games have these guys reviewed and they focused on footprints?! this is just too stupid, it's mind-blowing!
3/4 of the review is about some microscopic complaint issues and irrelevant remarks about metacritic scores. I have not been reading reviews for a long time (I usually try out demos). Can someone enlighten me if this is the sad state of reviews nowadays?
And that's coming from GameTrailers of all sites! GameDaily says no snow footprints? I just played the demo a little bit ago and my character made snow footprints. That was in a MULTIPLAYER DEMO and typically the mutiplayer aspect of a game has slightly worse graphics that the single player, same thing goes for a demo vs the final game.
From the review: "But as Nathan walks on the snow, shouldn't his feet make imprints into the ground? Instead, it just looks like the snow billows underfoot, disappearing in the classic video game manner all footprints usually disappear." Oh my god would you like some cheese with your WHIIIIIIINNNNNEE
yea, thats gamedaily, remember the MGS4 review? LMAO seriously, these guys just want to drop points can they have this fanboy feeling that they cannot allow a PS3 exclusive to get a perfect score. BTW The MGS4 review, they gave it an 8. glass bottles wasnt real enough. think im lying? go to their site right now and read it. "Uncharted 2 received so many perfect scores, is there anything it does wrong? Well, yes, there is." Seriously, i really want to raid them so bad and spam them with poop and dead people, EA RAID STYLE!!!!!
Poop and dead people? LOL
FailDaily strikes again! Can't attack the gameplay so we attack the snow! *shakes head*
Is it a C.S.I review?
So they basically scored it lower because of all the perfect scores it HAS been getting...? How about having some integrity and scoring it according to its own merits. Very amateurish to say the least.
exactly what i got out of it...his intro basically set it up that way anyways and with no real gripes it certainly appears to have some truth to it
This is the weirdest review ever. The guy's not judging the game from his perspective but from what other reviewers failed to mention before scoring the game with a perfect 10/10. In other words, he wrote a review focusing in nitpicking... *Leaving footprints in the snow will make this game more fun? -No. *Then it is not relevant, just nitpicking. GameDaily fails miserably... Again. The score was good, but the actual review was a disgrace.
Another poorly written review I see. In b4 trolls saying people are "whining about UC2 not getting a perfect score."
Huh? I thought this review was very fair and unbiased and the website layout is the best, the editors at GameDaily are unmatched.
Ground Control to Major Tom, your circuit's dead, there's something wrong Can you hear me, Major Tom?
lmao! the site is full of spam.
"But as Nathan walks on the snow, shouldn't his feet make imprints into the ground? Instead, it just looks like the snow billows underfoot, disappearing in the classic video game manner all footprints usually disappear." WTF? what a lame thing to say i think that was their only complaint, and for that they gave it a 9? its a great score don't get me wrong, but honestly"No prints"
I thought real snow was the really cool graphical feature in uncharted 2, like water was in the original uncharted
This review is a joke. If a site reviews this game, (I've now played the single player) and gives it anything below a 9.5, then they are a joke.
this is nit picking to the nth degree... this site should go back and look at the 9s it gave and I am sure there were way more issues with those games
using the bathroom? Like, you play with drake 15 hours and he never takes a pi$$ or a dump in the whole time. Even in MGS4, Akiba went. That is really a crime in videogames. We should all have characters who pretend to be real with real life graphics take a wiz in the corner from time to time. / sarcasm.
He's probably emphasizing snow because Naughty Dog claimed it would be the best snow or something to that effect. In any case, their wording does not match the actual score. It even comes off as feeling as if they are playing "mock-god" with the number, because they DO KNOW how people will respond. I hope they all get brain cancer, for their dishonesty. Die in a fire too - would be a bonus. But we can all dream. *listens to come sail away by Styx*
"He's probably emphasizing snow because Naughty Dog claimed it would be the best snow or something to that effect. " Then I'm dying to see their Forza 3 review!
...weird review. Snow? Footprint? hmmm...
he wants to see drakes crotch get swollen when around girls. he literally wants to ball gaze at nathan drakes privates and see some kind of shift from time to time. That way, he knows nathan drake is real.
I can't wait to eat this game for breakfast next friday :D All of these 9's and 10's must be really disheartening for the bots :*(
More like LameDaily.
Their Forza review will garner a 8.5-9.3 I'm thinking. They will praise it until fat ladies in viking gear rain down on us all.
A nice score but seriously, what a lame excuse to downplay the game; snow isnt realistic? lol Werent Game Daily the same ones that gave MGS4 an 8 because the glass on the cars didnt break? They just have to find something to complain about, because the game is on well... you know.
Snow, i don't get why anyone would complain about the snow. No footprints, lol when the feet are so deep in the ground i don't expect to see footprints i see dragged snow cos that dragged snow hides the footprints anyone that played the Beta will know that. A 9/10 is a great score but...u know its Uncharted 2, when i saw the link i knew they would give it a 9 cos it had the name GameDaily in the title. "because it is one of this generation's best" saying that and giving it a 9 is not right, they gave so many games higher than a 9 yet the best doesn't deserve a higher score.
so wouldn't the footprints disappear anyways?
im sure drake had to pee. why isnt that in the game???
after reading about the snow complaint. I wouldn't be surprised if he complains about the pixels on drakes right ass cheek.
in the demo it looks real to me...
Written by the same guy who complained that you can't shoot bottles in mgs4???
So they start the review by nitpicking, then move on to making criticisms not in line with any other publication, gloss over the best aspects of the game, and finish by giving the multiplayer just a few lines of analysis and completely ignoring the cinema mode. Stay classy GameDaily.
they gave gears and gears of war 2 9 /10 same to halo 3
What a really odd review just from how it starts out. Its like he's trying to find faults that no other reviews notice. Maybe they did notice but didn't take them as faults? I don't know if thats his way of trying to defend the review just because he didn't score it a perfect. I never had a problem with the camera view either when it came to the platforming in the first game. Other reviews have pointed this out but it was minor for them and didn't effect the score.
Any reviewer that believes (10/10 = "perfect game") should re-consider their career choice.
What! There's no bottle shooting in MGS4, Fail omg, wtf. There's no colour in Gears, wtf. noooooooooooooooo Dam, can't anyone just enjoy games
But I am deeply saddened by the reasons behind the score...=(
ZomG teh 9~!1!! oH NOeS~1!! I'm canceling my pre-order nao!!~1!
The complaints have nothing to do with the score you clown...read the review, the moron cites metacritic and other reviews in his own reveiw. Objective failure.
I find it so wrong to hate a 9/10 because I feel its a great score for any game to get. The fact is, they could not give good reasons why its a 9/10. A great example of how untrustworthy gaming journalism can get were the Gears of War 2 reviews. I got Gears of War 2 when I got my 360, hearing of the amazing game it was, boasting great visuals, action and story. Ok, the last bit was a lie, but the first two still stand. I found the multiplayer unplayable, with a lot of the gameplay mechanics broken and when that wasn't annoying you, you were paralyzed by the unbearable lag. The fact is, many reviewers overlooked this, looking more what a great game Gears 2 was under all these bugs. And while it was a great game, I gave up on the multiplayer aspect quickly because Epic never fixed the game for months on end. So why is it game reviewers can overlook such horribly obvious bugs in a game and yet one comes out that seems to run great and smooth, they nitpick and poke at things that in any other game they wouldn't look twice at? The fact most journalists seem to do this makes me see what gaming has become to some people. On a final note. No, 10 does not mean 'perfect'.
WOW this is an embarrassingly bad review. The reviewer keeps citing other reviews...even cites metacritic. What an idiot.
gamedaily gave GTA iv 10 out 10 it does not deserve it at all i have played gta iv i feel boring and full of bugs and glitches and the multiplayer is decent
We should all just buy the game when it comes out, that's the best way to shut those reviewers up and renders their poor scoring futile.
I normally wouldn't complain about a 9/10 score, but this is ridiculous. Take a look at the comment section after their review, seems some real fanboyish crap was said by a worker on the site, and even one of his co workers had to step in and disagree with him. Hilarious
its very silly review But as Nathan walks on the snow, shouldn't his feet make imprints into the ground? lol ouch. my god he surely brought out the facts why this game failed to get 10/10 or 9.5
OH NOES! The game didn't get a 10! The sky is falling!
Most aren't complaining about score, but the reasons why it was scored the way it was. But of course, you won't see that, you will just see what you wanna see I could care less what score is given to it, im still getting it day one, but review reads like " SEE!?!? we found something WRONG with the game!" Although they have made an edit about the snow part being a joke, it seems as if they were really bothered by it. If a problem in the game is bothering someone to a point when its mentioned in a review, i would expect it to stand out to more than one reviewer Why on earth would someone point out other reviews while writing their own? it has nothing at all to do with the game itself and it shows a lack of professionalism. Hell, even some of the reviewers co workers disagreed with him when he said in the comment section about the game being good but not being Halo 3: ODST good, which he quickly made edited out to save face
Actually it's not directed specifically at this review as much as the general tendency for PS3 owners to complain about every non-perfect score for any exclusive title. Be it allegations of bias or, even more ridiculous, corrupt reviewers taking money, they see every review as some kind of conspiracy. They complain about 10ths of a point as well. It's absurd. Why does it matter? No one, not one person, can rationally explain why it matters what a game they're getting regardless of score is given a score less than 10. I'm willing to bet that I've been gaming longer than most of the people on here and this has NEVER mattered to me. Sure, I could see how the game was getting scores like 6 or 7 that it might turn from a must own to a rent, but high 8' and 9's are still great scores. The first game has a metacritic score of 88 and to this day I hold it as one of the best games I've played this gen. And one of my favourite games of all-time. I don't agree with a lot of what the reviewers said, but it's their opinion which some of they get paid to give, others do it for their enjoyment and so on. The point is, that if Uncharted 2 scores less than a 10, the world isn't going to end and it doesn't affect the people who are getting this game next week at all. I surely doesn't affect me. It's called rational thought and perspective. Try it some time.
Completely agree with you N2. It's sad to see the entitlement PS3 fan(boy)s seem to think they deserve with regards to Uncharted 2 and its scores. They see the reviewers complaint about the snow and tear it apart, but completely ignore the fact that he has a gripe with the camera. maybe the camera complaint is what took most of that point off. Who knows. it doesn't matter because the score is still a great score.
