PS3 Video on Demand "This Calendar Year"

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president David Reeves has confirmed that video on-demand will be available via the PlayStation Network by the end of the year. Speaking at a PSN event in London recently, Reeves said that Sony will indeed be "offering video on demand", adding "I can't give you a time but it is not in the distant future, it will be within this calendar year."

According to Reeves, full-length movies, music and TV programmes will all be available for download, direct to both the PS3 and PSP, although he gave no indication of exactly what would be available at launch or indeed the pricing structure. Reeves added, "It will not be in all of our PAL territories but it will be in the major territories."

upon the realization that the four precious letters "NTSC" have been omitted from the article.

Uh, there WILL be VOD in North America, right?

(Right???)

@eques judicii:

I'm referring specifically to PS3; We've already got VOD alternatives here in Canada. But I enjoy and would like to rely on the fact that the PS3 is able to centralize all of my multimedia needs so well.

So "VOD for PS3 in NTSC, I plea!!!"

(I'm a poet and don't even know it.)

already is, its offered by comcast and charter and actually called, "on demand"

PS3 + Linux + USB Turner = free tv recorder, eh close enough to this

I'll make it very clear. Reeves is in charge of Europe, why would he be discussing a service outside of his territory? (North America/Asia)

Offer an external hard drive. or is any external hard drive compatible?
I wander anyone offers a 300gig internal hard drive for the PS3.

Kyur4ThePain3627d ago

USB drive will do. I have a WD MyBook 320gb attached.

SmokeyMcBear3627d ago

i think the biggest right now for internal is a 200 gb drive, it has to be 2.5" Also any usb external will work. I have a 500GB seagate, just have to format it into FAT32

Torch, dont be disappointed that David Reeves never mentioned NTSC territories... He is the prez of SCE-Europe so he cant make that announcement for a different territory.

Sony have been promising this for some time, we know its been coming but it would actually be great to have -especially as my local Blockbuster store has closed down!

VirtualGamer3627d ago (Edited 3627d ago )

Don't think many should be suprised at this. It was only a matter of time as to when they would offer this service.

Hey Torch where abouts in Canada? I am from Calgary, Alberta.

THE_JUDGE3627d ago

I can't wait for this. Things in HD are so hard to come buy where I live. Comcast rapes you for everything you have for even the most basic stuff. Wonder what type of stuff they have planned for this one, either way its all good.

eques judicii3627d ago

they'd have to rename it for america though, i'm pretty sure it would be a trademark infringement in america...

and HD-content isn't that hard to come by... video marketplace in america is awesome.
