Are Video Game Prices Due for a Crash?

$60 game prices are unsustainable for anything less than AAA-quality games, and the overall quality of games have been dropping for the past few years. On top of this, game upgrades via systems like Live Marketplace are raising the true cost of games even higher.

Soon, mainstream customers will begin to take solace in downloadable classics and new, cheap games.

And only exclusive AAA games should cost $60, $5 more for Special/ Collector Editions! :)

hell yea. its fu(kin wallet draining ^0 bucks fora game is freakin tooo much man. honestly thats why so many people mod their systems. they better lower the prices cause if games go near the 100 dollar mark hardly no ones gonna buy unless its a must have or simply resort to renting.

LOWER UR PRICES DEVELOPERS AT LEAST BACK TO THE 50 range(even though that was kinda high for a PIECE OF GOD DAMN PLASTIC THAT TAKES 2 SESONDS TO RUN OFF THE GOD DAMN MACHINE

Lowing the prices wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit.
With the load of games the 360 has coming out the rest of the year I was thinking of getting a second part time job just to afford them..lol

It is all about Supply and Demand. If the demand goes down, the prices will follow suit, but thats not going to happen. If you factor in inflation, 60 bucks is actually a deal. The consumers were paying 50 bucks for games since the Nintendo days.

@chitown - I know you probably know this, but the cost comes from development not from production of the game in a wharehouse.

Personally, I only buy titles at full price that are worth it. I wouldn't mind paying 90 bucks for Final Fantasy, Zelda, or any game that spans many hours of gameplay. Gears is only 6 hours long, so why should I pay full price? Just for the record, I'm waiting for it to get a "greatest hits" price to buy it. I can play it at my friends house, thanks.
