LOT Analysis rocks, much easier to follow and looks really cool. BTW the PS3 screen tearing was disgusting. Digital Foundry EAT YOUR HEART OUT....
Makes me laugh when people are comparing racing games to see if one has more pixels than the other...
All I do care about is if one has deformation and the other doesn't and if one use a steering wheel and the other doesn't. But when those guys check a racing games, they will tell you that there's one less pixel on a car hood and it's blurry while you're driving 100mph, but they don't even care what it look like after you ram a wall at that speed.
So, how to pick a racing game is easy for me:
1- Does it work with my racing wheel? (Though, I've bought a few games that didn't... They have to be truly awesome though)
2- Does it get my heartbeat going?
3- Can I start the game with a black car and finish the race with 7 more colors on it (trading paint) by the time I finish it.
If the answer is yes to all 3, I'll buy it, and I don't care if one has 2 pixels less than the other.
PS: And when is the G27 racing wheel coming out &%??%&%?...

Looks like that same fuzzy blur that's in Lost Planet 2 for the PS3 but not as bad, so it won't be as bad on your eyes as Lost Planet 2 for PS3 is. Not a big problem for PS3 only owners if you don't play too long.
BUT DAM... "Xbox 360 throws some dirt into the grill of the PlayStation 3 by sporting far less screen tearing. While the Xbox 360 version wasn’t tear free, the visual impact of the screen tearing was held to a minimum creating a more enjoyable experience."
Graphics the same, loading the same, screen tearing - PS3 sucks.
Personally, I don't mind a little screen tearing, but screen tearing to the point where it interferes with the gameplay is unacceptable.
Codemasters really screwed the pooch on the PS3 version this time, if LOT is to be believed. Given the excellent titles availabe on the PS3 at this point, we shouldn't have to deal with developers too lazy to optimize their code for the hardware they're working on.
It's about 11%... which is not as bad as something like Red Faction Guerilla that had 50% screen tearing *as mentioned in a comment in the article*
LOT said that the screen tearing was so bad it interfered with the gameplay. If that was true, Codemasters would have something to answer for. So was LOT just exaggerating then? Anyone play the PS3 version who can say if the screen tear hurt the gameplay?
I guess it's safe to say that the ps3 multiplat of dirt2 is verily gimped!
..another one to add to the list, it seems.
(quote from the article)
"Unfortunately, the PlayStation 3 version took a face plant into the dirt by screen tearing far more than the Xbox 360 version did in almost every race. And to add fuel to the fire, the screen tearing actually was bad enough to distract us from controlling the car, which directly affected gameplay."
"PS3 Avg FPS – 29.63 / Xbox 360 Avg FPS – 29.59 / Ps3 Avg Frame Tears – 11.45% / Xbox 360 Avg Frame Tears – 1.52%"
Problem is, this happens all too often:
PS3 screen tear; PS3 blurriness; PS3 slower loading times; PS3 mandatory hdd installs; PS3 reduced textures.
Sure, these faults don't all-happen-at-once-all-the-tim e, but more often than not, two or more of these hallmarks of ps3 'multiplat-gimping' rear their ugly heads.
What is particularly interesting, is that no matter how often this happens, we can count on ps3 fans blaming developers for not expending extra unnecessary resources on getting the ps3 version up to scratch.
Nothing new to see here, people.
In fact, this is getting kinda tired.
Why don't we instead start praising the developers for taking advantage of the 360 architecture and producing the generally clearly superior mutiplats, while maintaining their limited budgets, for the good of the gaming industry?
Fact is, if a developer makes a great ps3 game, but goes broke in the process due to spending more money on development than can be recouped, then everybody loses!
That just common sense, right?
Xbox 360 always outperforms PS3..
@RudeSole Devil:
Now you've done it... Here come the exclusive arguments.

Most of the time 360 wins, not always though
UC2, KZ2, HR, GT5, RaC, LG and many more PS3 exclusives fart all over your precious multiplatforms.
So what if PS3 fanboys have VASTLY better looking exclusives...treeshitty fanboys have SOME slightly better looking multiplatforms.
Its like this biatches, you have 2 big macs, one has slightly better looking bread and a pickle is a bit bigger. Both are the same except for some tiny differences due to a different cook preparing it.
Then you have a steak from Denny's (treeshitty exclusive) and a filet mignon from an expensive steakhouse (PS3 exclusive) Both are made from the same animal but one is VASTLY better...which one could that be hmmmm?
So you can have your bigmacs with bigger pickles, I will take the Filet mignon please.
The Xbox version had slightly better textures, but the PS3 version had better lighting and shadowing.
please explain.
On topic: I think they look the same as well as other more recent multiplats. Sometimes the difference is just the setting of the screen for brightness/contrast. Adjust them and they look identical.
Also I have the PS3 version of this game, I haven't noticed screen tearing at all??? am I just blind?? i've not been looking for it, so i'm sure it happens once and a while, but it's not even registered with me yet, so to say it's interferes with playing seems extreme to me!
I had never noticed. Are you sure it is a bug in the design and not just what they were going for? I can say that with my set tuned correctly, the 360 looks nice and the ps3 looks a bit dark. I had to actually adjust the contrast to play kz2 because it didnt look right.
When playing games on the 360 it is good but movies come out a bit bright. Ps3 games are dark but movies are just right.
????? go figure.
K.
Good job Codemasters!
@ Below
I'm at level 20 on both consoles
Why are you playing the same game on two different consoles?
Not condemning, just curious.
ps3 pays for being different, by having less optimised engines. It's sony's fault for making it that way.
Don't blame the devs when their job's been made more difficult by someone else's decisions.
wtf codemaster?
Thanks for giving us the dirt, guys!
Or who gives a sheet?
Pick which one you like.
I have to agree, the closer the PS3 is getting to 360 in multiplats (and beating it in some) the less important this becomes =)
I don't get bothered by this at all, and i doubt anyone but people w a 360 and a PS3 do, but considering how small of a demographic those people are compared to those with 1 console, these articles are just pure fanboy fodder =)
EAT UP LITTLE GIRLS!!! THERES PLENTY FOR YOU ALL HERE TO FEED ON..../facepalm
Textures are the same for both, the filtering on the 360 is better used. and it shows.
I cannot judge the screen tearing due to the fact the demo has no screen tearing.
But to say the game is unplayable on PS3 due to screen tearing i found funny.
I do wonder does the 360 employ tripple buffering, after reading naughty dogs answer to it i do wonder.
Either way, actually a very good game.

This isn't an issue about hardware, but coding. 360 builds have in-built hurdles when porting to the PS3. End of story.
Until there's a 360 exclusive that looks better than a PS3 one, until there's a former 360 exclusive that doesn't look better on the PS3 because extra time and effort were put in, comparisons like this are only fanboyism at its worse. With the 360 side loosing ground.
It really makes no sense. Everyone knows that a PS3 exclusive stomps all over 360 exclusives. I find it funny that the 360 boys cling to this multiplatform crap. Even IF the game looks slightly better on the 360 its NOT because the 360 is more powerful rather its because the developer did not optimize the game for the Cell.
But whatever, let the 360 boys have their slightly better in some multiplatform games while we have exclusives that DESTROY the 360 in size, graphics, gameplay, immersiveness, ORIGINALITY, production, animation, sound...etc etc.
For everyone of these comparisons I say GT5, KZ2, UC2, HR, The Show, RaC and many more. Each and everyone of these titles look much better than any 360 exclusive.
You are correct saying that the exclusives look better on the PlayStation 3. And if you are fine playing only exclusives, then stick with it. But unfortunately exclusives only make up roughly 10% of library. The rest of the games out in the marketplace, probably 75% of them, are a better experience on the Xbox 360 because it was the lead platform.
PS3 = for exclusives.
Xbox 360 = for everything else.
I did notice Screentearing on Uncharted 1 demo, going through the jungle with water running etc. But from what i've heard of naughty dog, the same thing that pc gamers used to do, tripple buffering. But to do so takes 20-30mb ram space. I wonder if naughty dog had that problem. I find it interesting.
But to say the game tears so much on the PS3 playing dirt2 is Talking complete and utter bull.
i still don't trust lens of truth.
Yes the tears are very noticable! when marked out with a bright yellow line! but I've got the PS3 version and up until this article was completely unaware of tearing in the game. I'm not saying Lens of Truth have made it all up, it's just that the tearing in no way distracts from the gaming experiences, and in fact did not even register with me.
If your a pixel whore the 360 does win this comparrison, no doubt it has slightly better textures and next to no tearing.
but as far as the gaming experience goes they are both identical and the average gamer won't notice a difference, even when they are right next to each other.
"With the 360 side loosing ground. "
Yeah, you are not a fanboy or anything. As far as I am concerned the PS3 continues to win the exclusive content but consistently loses when it comes to 3rd party games. Developers are getting better with the porting, but even the best have problems on Sony's platform.
I can't wait to see what happens with FFXIII
Don't even give this sh#t site hits.
my name says it all.
Bet you have retard tatooed on your forehead too. lol
VS our exclusive games = completely owned
http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...
These comparisons will never matter to Ps3 fans, because they have UC2 and KZ2, as well as other exclusive games. I readily admit Ps3 exclusives look way better than 360 exclusives, and have been disappointed in the fact that MS has not paid enough attention to 1st party. I believe the 360 can display better than what has been shown.
I mean, i posted links concerning screentearing, nothing to do with framerate, when means that the 360 version is using render ahead and the ps3 version double buffering i'm guessing.
I bet the next one uses tripple.
But either way, unless i was told about it, and shown that massive 12%/s, playing it you wouldnt even know.
to justify their investment on a console? =P...so sad...oh so sad.............
Oh well, i guess its only SLIGHTLY worste, gna buy a 360 now don't want my PS3 for nothing..../sarc
