World Cyber Games 2009 U.S. Final 2009 - New York City

DualShockers writes:

"In recent years, the latest evolution in gaming has been it's transition from something that was casual in the family room and bringing it into convention centers filled with fierce competition and screaming fans. Competitive gaming is taking video games to new heights as it's providing the opportunity for gamers to receive credit for their skill, hard work and practice. Where they get to be considered athletes just like any other athlete in their prospective sport. Not everyone can hit a home run out of Yankee Stadium, but not everyone can get a No-Scope head shot in Gears of War 2 (across the map mind you) either. This past weekend, in conjunction with the New York Anime Festival, The World Cyber Games held it's United States Final in order to help find what players would represent the good old U.S. of A. in Chengdu, China for the World Championship of gaming..." Good coverage.
I would have loved to attend the event. I could only imagine the folks there. :)

I would have kicked some butt at SOME of those games. I would have gotten owned in Gears of War 2, though. No doubt about that.

The competitive gaming
culture seldom gets coverage on gaming sites, I'm glad these guys covered it.

WCG is very important for gamers to be taken seriously

Oh hey I was there this weekend lol. Some of those Gears 2 matches were a little boring to watch though since they were spectating people who weren't where the action was a handful of the time (Like this one round in the FINALS they had the spectator on this sniper guy who was just standing in the sniper spawn starring at the ground and hitting the wall and all this other stupid stuff lol).

I enjoyed the Counter Strike & Starcraft matches though.

Competitive gaming is still a very strange thing to me. Still, I bet the Counter-Strike matches were something else.
