Gamespot Preview: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Hands-On

Naughty Dog takes a turn for the realistic as Gamespot gets to play its new island-hopping treasure hunt for the first time.

Excerpt from the Gamespot preview:

"From Crash Bandicoot to Jak & Daxter, famed Sony developer Naughty Dog has always focused on cartoon-like characters and fantastical settings. Not so for its latest project (and first PlayStation 3 game), Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. The game casts you as the eponymous treasure hunter, an intrepid Indiana Jones sort of guy who believes himself to be descended from the famous explorer Sir Francis Drake. In the interest of reinstating his rightful family legacy, Drake has set out to find the lost treasure of El Dorado, which will conveniently also make him filthy rich. At the outset of the demo version of the game we got to try, Drake and an unnamed female companion were traveling via biplane to the island where they believe the treasure to be hidden away."

Gamespot said this game looks more realistic than anything they saw before so that must mean it looks better than Gears to them.

You are taking that way out of context. Gears isn’t going for realism its going for style. The character models in gears are very far from realistic though they are some of the most detailed models on a home system. I am not saying that drakes fortune doesn’t have better graphics i am just saying his statement was made to point out its realism of the graphics they use not the detail of the graphics. A good example of this is rainbow 6 vs gears. Rainbow looks more realistic but gears has better graphics.
