IGN: Halo 3: ODST: Yet Another Take

Charles Onyett writes:

"Bungie's Halo 3: ODST wasn't a title I was particularly close to for pre-release coverage, as resident Halo nuts Erik Brudvig and Hilary Goldstein handled that while I took care of other business. I'd played Firefight mode at Gamescom 2009 so I knew a little of what to expect there, but the structure of the single-player campaign was almost entirely new to me. It was a bit of a shock to access an overhead map without a rigid path to follow, and it was a style of campaign I grew to appreciate as I moved through."

I haven't had a chance to play ODST yet, but based on the article the main storyline appeals more to me than storyline of Halo 3. Which didn't answer enough questions about the series' back story.

ARBitrator3250d ago

The answer 360 fans to stopping morganfell is to do what he does to everyone else. Want to limit his trolling, start popping them bubbles. Although he'll probably use his 20 accounts to build them up gain. :) I think, I'll pop one right now.

ThanatosDMC3250d ago

I was just at Gamestop. Halo3: ODST was selling like pancakes. Funny thing was most of them were just kids with their mommies and daddies. I remember those good ol' days...

I actually finished it last night and enjoyed it way more then halo 3. whatever score you think halo 3 deserves, odst should actually score higher IMO.

It maybe shorter, but overall it's more fun and more engaging. bungie have restored my faith that they can still make a great campaign for halo after halo CE.

SixZeroFour3250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

it was actually pretty short for you DARK? what difficulty did you play on

everyone i knew started off on either easy or normal, which i dont exactly get why...if you hear that they game would be real short, wouldnt you try to make it last longer by trying it on a bit of a more difficult difficulty? i personally started off on heroic and i got a decent amount of hours logged into it at first go, about 8 and a half to finish from start to finish...and yesterday i went back to try to finish it on legendary (got the vidmaster challenge: classic as that was fun)

Who is IGN trying to convince because it isn't working and the more articles they publish just makes them look like they are desperate not to be attacked.

IGN has now de-evolved into Gamespot.

Hutch23553250d ago

Just wondering, the majors think its pretty good, so we shall see. Why such hate?

IdleLeeSiuLung3250d ago

"Why such hate? "

Just take a look at morgan's comment history and see if you can find a positive comment about the Xbox 360.

WMW3250d ago

yeah the major sites think its good i guess thats why it is currently at an average of 8.4 oh wait it is that low because majority of sites thought it was average or terrible.

morganfell3250d ago

Well Hutch it is 4 reviews in 3 articles trying to convince people a glorified mission pack is worth $59. Their attempts are not working. Some of us refuse to drink the kool aid. Bungie told us what the game was and MS thinks a name change = the right to charge for a full game?

IGN knows their credibility is in trouble. What they do not see is that the louder and more often they try and preach the word the more we look at them like Reverend Jones in Guyana.

Weak_Sauce3250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

yes morganfell, the world of gaming reviewers are all in on it

can we say de-loo-syo-nal

GiantEnemyCrab3250d ago

Looking at the comments and the agrees/disagrees this site is lolz. And that's lolz in a sorry pityful kinda way.

Is this Morgan's 10th or 11th Halo ODST take?? It's funny they are all the same hate. Why don't you apply the same logic to yourself and then ask who you are trying to convince?

uxo223250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

Great point, morgan is definitely burning the midnight oil hating on halo. I really don't understand why he is putting in so much overtime.

Kinda strange.

I think morgan is secretly teaching a trolling class. /s

Blaze9293250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

Obviously not trying to convince the 2 million+ people who bought ODST in 24 hours. IGN's credibility is no where near "in trouble". Maybe to sony fanboys yeah but to gamers no and IGN still is and probably will forever be one of the largest gaming publications ever.

Don't like Halo or ODST Morganfail then simply stop clicking on every Halo article you see! Simple. Don't like IGN anymore, stop going to their website and clicking every IGN submission you see. Move on

Bnet3433250d ago

I agree with Blaze. I don't know what's Morganfell's problem. IGN's credibility is fine, you are just mad that Halo 3 ODST was a successful game. It got good scores, people enjoy it (I know I do), and it sold 2 million in one day. Halo 3 ODST did it's job. Let it go, it's just a game. You don't need to worry if it's worth buying or not Morganfell because you wouldn't be getting it either way.

ThanatosDMC3250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

People just fail to see why Morganfell has a bone to pick with ODST. It's mainly the fact that it's an expansion sold at full price.

Bungie back then said it wasnt gonna be expensive but then crap happens and people paid in full price. It's just sad that people think it's acceptable since next thing we know other developers might come to indulge themselves to this idea and over charge us the consumers.

Ignorance is bliss... What you dont know cant hurt you... Modern Warfare 2 pricing debacle...

I'd be pissed if Resistance 3 comes out with less content than Resistance 2 and they try to sell us the game. A lot of people would tell them to eat $h!t.

Treylove993250d ago

Why must you keep coming into halo threads and bashing, if you don't like it don't buy it, call your local athorities and complain. Call your local game store and complain, but please stay out of halo threads. Hutch he hates everything microsoft and halo, I guess all those ps3 games that are out there just don't take enough of his time so he comes in and trolls and the fanboys lick it up and hammer anyone that dares to argue with the great morgan. I am sure i will be down to 2 bubbles and 20 disagrees by tomorrow. Hey real fans, how bout you bubble up other real fans and lets start kicking the crud out of fanboys on both sides. I am sure that real fans are the majority on here, so how about it, lets just show the idiot fanboys who is really in charge.

Timday53250d ago

The wii is by far the best system and wii sports and wii play are the best games. Wii play has so much more depth than odst it isn't funny, and dont get me started on ps2.5 games, glorified ps2 games with a paint job. Now they are trying to copy the wii with a wand. Nice try, but you can't compare to the wii mote. Wii play and wii sports are the biggest sellers. Sales=great games. The wii is the only next gen system out there the broke box and ps2.5 are just re-hashes of old systems, no inovation.

IdleLeeSiuLung3250d ago

Wii Sports and Wii Fit might not be a good FPS, but comparing games for completely different markets is idiotic.

Wii Sports and Wii Fit are great games in their own genre for a much bigger market. Instead you should wonder how MS could brainwash 2 million people to buy it the first day and then some more....

Maybe, just maybe can you see it is a good game if you take off the fanboy goggles!

@ ThanatosDMC

well you raise good points that have been raised and noted.

as far is over pricing goes.. well the trend has already been set. activision had a good hand there with MW2, people still stuck up for them and justified the price hike.

If sony did the same with resistance 3, you can be sure most of the ps3 fanboys would find a reason to justify the price.. just like halo fans.

Is it worth the extra money.. well it's a matter of opinion because we all place value on stuff differently. I can tell you after Playing the game all the way through.. I have paid full price for games that were shorter, less fun with less replay value.

I actually like odst campaign more then halo3 and i enjoyed it enough to actually want to finish it unlike killzone 2's campaign which i found so boring I actually got to the last level but didn't bother finishing it before i took it back. that does not mean it's a bad game. different people, different taste.

2mil in a day? an 8.4 meta score with big sites, not little wannabes, giving it even better scores.

I think Sony and any of it's dev's would love to have the #'s ODST has received.

Not a flop Simple Jack.

EDIT: LOL at the disagrees. I don't think you realize how you condemn a large portion of PS3 games by calling this a flop. And that's just in scores, they don't even have a fraction of the sales.

MKV3250d ago (Edited 3250d ago )

tsk tsk tsk @ Saaking

Obama3250d ago

"*quantity flop* "

Fixed. ;)

tehReaper3250d ago

Saaking, you should never ever go full retard.

Kill Crow3250d ago

is in saakings pants ... tiny little flop right there ...

but then so would anyone if they bought a poo station

Yet another take?

Will you assholes shut the hell up already?

First take. Another take. Yet another take.

Jesus Christ we get it. You love Halo and you're a biased website.

womper3250d ago

ding ding ding. first prize. the man is dead on the money with that.

testerg353250d ago

morganfell is right. I don't know what IGN is thinking. It must also mean that they were wrong in thinking that UC2 is great. I believe they loved KZ2, but now I don't know what to think.
