5 Gaming Franchises That P*ssed All Over Their Loyal Fans

In the world of gaming, it's all about franchises. Any new, unknown title isn't half as likely to sell as "FPS Shooter Part 2: The Reckoning" or "Sports Game Roster Update 2010?, so it makes sense for developers to build on familiar grounds and expand on what players have already come to love.

But some times, sadly, even the best of series have gone horribly astray. Take for instance…..

this is funny ... fail article... @kapedkrusaderand i dont think halo should be on there sure its odst fails but halo 123 and maybe reach were actually good.... plz no fanboy comments

Winter47th3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Where's ODST? How about Resident Hulk 5 ?

Viper73253d ago

Where the **** is Doom3? seriously it threw out everything that made the game great. I mean seriously why did we get a freaking half-life wannabe flashlight tag game?

Original series made the player go trough hell with a arsenal of weapons each more powerful than the other and fight against nice amounts of monsters.

Serious Sam series has been more "Doom"like than Doom3 ever can dream to be.

Now ID get your **** together and give me a real Doom next time ok?

Megaton3253d ago

Fail article of the highest caliber. Kojima himself said MGS4 was created just for the fans, and it totally shows. The whole game was fan service.

HolyOrangeCows3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

There's still urine leaking down my head from ODST:
*Short campaign
*Repackaged Multiplayer
*Lack of Matchmaking on Firefight
.....''only'' $60

I want Halo 4, not a full price DLC and a class based (Way to screw with the formula...) MP game.

UnwanteDreamz3253d ago

Man this is weak! Wanna talk being pissed on then how about the whole freaking survival horror genre pissing on its fans? From RE5 to SH Homecoming it has been a crappy golden shower to real survival horror fans. RE5 was fun but it wasn't RE.

Then we got GTA giving us less and calling it more like we wouldn't notice. I could keep going but I think I made my point.

This is a fail.

IrishRepublicanArmy3253d ago

it was the non fans who tag along with the hype that were pissed on.
thats the way it should be. its the fans that count.

"Lastly on the Solid line, we’ve got MGS4. I’m not entirely certain who thought that playing as a decrepit old man with a child-molester mustache"

fyi spell check isnt an option for you i also recommend you have someone who finished grade school proofread as well.

RockmanII73253d ago

Halo isn't on there because it's fans are still happy. This is straight from their website.

Halo 3 Players Online: 127,753
Unique Players (Last 24 Hours): 1,423,686

With numbers like that, all their fans are happy.

Tony P3253d ago

Terminator is a movie franchise, not a game thing. The games were NEVER good. Why is it even there?

MGS? That's just silly.

On the other hand I agree with Phantasy Star. PS is sad. Boy, do I miss the days when they made singleplayer instead of selling out to the MMO frenzy. Worse, they support an offline mode in PSOs, but it's as crappy as you can expect in a predominately online game. Even worse, the online support is CRAP compared to pretty much any other online game on the market (at least in the States). I would rather this series just up and died.

Can't disagree with LucasArts either. They're terrible compared to before.

SaiyanFury3253d ago

I can agree on a few of those, personally, most notably Phantasy Star. But Metal Gear Solid? Really? I thought those bosses like The End were some of the most epic boss fights ever. Seriously, fighting a master sniper where you're afraid to even move because you might be detected by him. THAT was an epic battle. I remember Kojima saying that he had to make it easier just because the game testers could take hours to finish the battle. Sorry, but I love the characters in MGS, even the weird ones like Vamp. He's creepy, but in a good way. :)

MerkinMax3252d ago (Edited 3252d ago )

I've been playing the hell out of it since Tuesday. It was worth every cent for me because I got 8 1/2 hours out of the campaign on Heroic, which seems to be normal for most games these days. I also love the story which by far surpasses any of the other Halo games. There was nothing more intense than having tons of covenant cruisers fly overhead and then an Assault Carrier start burning the city while you're trying to escape. Bungie made a Halo game for the fans and all I can say as a fan is that I am extremely impressed with this game.

Raz3252d ago

Because seriously, if any game has gotten progressively crappier with each iteration...

"playing as a decrepit old man with a child-molester mustache"

Oooh, brave man to say that about Snake. Oh and its moustache, with an 'o'.

Moduserous3253d ago

No, it's mustache........

Fishy Fingers3253d ago

Oh is that how the US spell it? Didnt realise. Or should that be, "realize" :)

Moduserous3253d ago

Touche... or.... tuche...?!?

Sangria3253d ago

It's Touché, says the french.

HolyOrangeCows3253d ago

So that's how they say it, eh? Hasta La Vista, Mademoiselle.

mastiffchild3252d ago

Seeing as our US cousins still want to mangle our shared language(which I think is damned nice of us!)with their spelling of this particular face adornment I propose we adopt the universally acceptable shortened version of "tash".

Or the more snazzy "moooey"-which I really like.

Halo. 2 million suckers conned into buying a $60 expansion pack, and inevitably changing the future of DLC for generations to come. But bots will defend it to the end because it's the only thing they have to play this year even though they'll finish the game by tonight, enjoy their firefight mode for about a week, and then fap-fap the rest of the year to the 6 million other bots that bought it.

maniacmayhem3253d ago

Funny I'm playing SF4, CoD4(Still), Wet, UA2, MvC2, Shadow Complex, BF'43, etc etc etc.

ReviewsArePolitics3253d ago

Mostly downloadable crap, or stuff anyone else can play too.

Anyway, Resident Evil should be there. Before RE4, all resident evils were legendary, now with RE5 it's an action shooter because X-tards can't play anything else, so Crapcom has to catter to their sh1tty tastes.

Mo0eY3253d ago

Funny I'm playing SF4, CoD4(Still), Wet, UA2, MvC2, Shadow Complex, BF'43, etc etc etc.

When I meant nothing to play, I mean exclusive titles - you know, the entire reason we BUY that specific console (other than the other features that appeal to you).

I can buy all of those sames games on my PS3 (excluding Metroid Pr... Shadow Complex).

Anyway, you missed the real point of the story so I don't know why I'm bothering. :)

maniacmayhem3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Triple A, uuum did I not list triple A titles...

CoD4 (AAA)

I think you're getting confused on what a AAA title entails. Take a step back and take off the blinders which has rendered you a complete stupido.

Just messin with ya ;-)

Sony took a piss on the ps3 owners and the ps3 owners drank it

cliffbo3253d ago

lol... oh dear, how silly you are going to look

NegativeCreep4273253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Second of all, if anyone drank anything here, by the way you hop around N4G with your asinine comments and sub-par literal skills, it looks like you drank too much bleach as a baby, mistaking it for your mother's milk.

Third of all, you are probably the biggest f*cking retard on this site, so I am kind of questioning my motive in this message right now as I type because I know nothing that is rooted in reality will ever be accepted by your broken condom of a self.

Jamescagney3253d ago

Metal Gear is one of the most over rated games to ever come out.

Lets Play!

- Cut Scene begins - 5 mins length

*Plays game for 2 mins*

- Cut Scene begins - 10 minutes length

*Plays game for 2 mins*

- Cut Scene begins - 10 minutes length

*Plays game for 2 mins*

- Cut Scene begins - 15 minutes length

And so on...

GEESE3253d ago

MGS4 has a ton of cut scenes (which are amazing) and it is one of the greatest games I have EVER played. And I usually hit skip on cut scenes. Games that put production values and times into a cut scene, enhance the experience, but you wouldn't know that as you obviously are a 14 yo fanboy.

Jamescagney3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

I know maniacmayhem, the interaction in the game is terrible, it's almost as if the game maker didn't want to make a game but was a failed film director.

@GEESE: Wrong. I love games with a storyline, but I want to be the one that plays through them, I don't want to watch them.

foxtheory3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

I wouldn't call it over rated, it just doesn't appeal to a lot of people. Lots of people (including me) like the cinematic experience that MGS brings. If you don't like it, I respect that. But for the fans that follow the story and know what's going on, it's one frickin amazing series.

EDIT: Reading your recent comment, I see your point. But in some cases, the only way the story can progress is through cutscenes. Since MGS4 wrapped up the series, they seemed to cram a lot of story into it, resulting in lots of cutscenes. And at least the cutscenes were immersive (well, the majority at least).

HDgamer3253d ago

Lol you haven't even played it, way more gameplay than your ignorance of metal gear series.

Jamescagney3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Maybe foxtheory, I appreciate that a lot of work went into the cutscenes and the story. But a cutscene automatically takes you away from the game, and afterall it is a game. Tons of cutscenes don't immerse you in to the game, they take you away from it.

At least you didn't accuse me of being 14 though.

@HDgamer : And you know because?

foxtheory3253d ago

You're not as stubborn as some of the people on this site. And at least you're a fan, too. It makes it a lot easier to get my point across! :)

Persistantthug3253d ago

If you don't like them and/or have a problem with them.....why not just hit the "SKIP" button and move along in the game?

Jamescagney3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

I'll say this, MGS on ps1 was spot on. One of my favourite games of all time, I loved it, had the gameplay down with a good story that wasn't pushy. After that it kinda lost its way for me.

That defeats the purpose of playing it, I want to know the story without having sat through an hour of cutscenes. Isn't there a better way to lead you through a story than making hours of cutscenes?

Cerberus_Hunter3253d ago

You're wrong.

Movies and video games are both an entertainment form that is sold to you. I think of the MGS series as a gaming experience that i can't get anywhere else.

Heh...Ironic, since James Cagney was an actor...

Jamescagney3253d ago

You dirty rat.

I don't know, maybe it's just one of those things I'll never understand. What I know is the gameplay for me is great while the watching the cutscenes isn't. But I don't want to skip all the cutscenes in the game because I won't know what's going on. I want the story without having to lay my controller down for 10 mins.

devilhunterx3253d ago

Oh man. You really are a comedy genius.

Jamescagney3253d ago

I couldn't step into your shoes devilhunterx, you are the king of the one liners.

Probably because your brain would haemorrhage having to write two.

HDgamer3253d ago

I know because MGS series have always had long cutscenes so your bs is laughable if not funded by fanboyism.

RockmanII73253d ago

Jamescagney, welcome to the ignore list

BYAAHHH3253d ago

Maybe they did cram too much in MGS4. I too was confused at some parts. I personally felt the game was way too short. I've always felt if they spread it out into maybe 2 or 3 more games, it wouldn't have to have as many cut scenes, and at the same time have 2 or 3 more great games. Maybe that costs too much money...

christian hour3252d ago

In my opinion Kojima needs to let someone edit his dialogue. I know its typical for japanese writers to have these huge overarching plotlines filled with so much information, you see it in manga comics and anime all the time (mgs is like the dragon ball of video games). I've done 3 years of film in college and I'm currently in my 2nd year of tv operations and productions. Playing through mgs4 I couldn't help but feel there was alot of stuff, scenes, dialogue, etc, that could've been explained with simple things like emotion in a characters face, or just one or two words or just cut altogether. MGS4 to me, seemed like the first draft of a script, before all the crap was filtered out in a 2nd or 3rd draft. Dont get me wrong I loved every minute of cutscenes in mgs4. It wasn't until my second playthrough (which included watching cutscenes again) that I realised alot of it could have been chopped. at the most a 1/4.
