I just couldn't sit around, build a few towers, and then let extreme boredom set in as I would watch enemies run through a stage to get from one side to the other. For a time I would give tower defense games "two thumbs way down." Then something happened. I played Defense Grid: The Awakening, and my thoughts on the genre would change forever. This is one amazing tower defense game that gets the motor running upstairs while the action on the screen never stops.
The storyline in Defense Grid is rather shallow and nonexistant. The narrator, with his unique British accent, was once a human who died more than 1,000 years ago when attacking aliens wiped out the human race. The power cores are all that remains of the planet's defenses which are on various grids. This is the last line of sefense and it's up to you to stop them. Don't you just love it when most games have the similar plot of "the fate of the world depends upon one person to save the day or die trying?" Well here's another one. OK, enough of the plot...let's kill some alien scum..."
