hay3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

True. I'm not fan of Halo but the music is brilliant.

Lol, when I hear GoW theme I can't think of anything else than:

Also, I think it's more like top 5 audio tracks, not soundtracks.

@Dan: Really?
I think it shouts 'awesomeness'.

The MGS sound track sounds awesome.

ReservoirDog3163253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

One game that should always be mentioned but never is is the Max Payne 2 theme song. Fits perfectly with the game and sets the mood.

KionicWarlord2223253d ago

Max payne : " Mona . Mona "
Mona: " O max..thats the spot ."

Max payne 2 as great . The ending to .

ShabzS3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

yes max payne 2 was awesome ...

for a list with game music it needs to have max payne 2 and halo 3...

and damn yes red alert 2 was awesome as well ... i still remember that opening invasion of new york ... good times

iamtehpwn3253d ago

No Final Fantasy, Zelda, or Lost Odyssey on this list?

foxtheory3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

So amazing, in fact, that I bought every MGS game's soundtrack (excluding Portable Ops) about a year ago, and I still listen to it today!

Shadow of the Colossus had a brilliant score, and Zelda did as well. One that gets overlooked IMO is Assassin's Creed. Just listening to the soundtrack without the commotion of the game is just phenomenal! I totally recommend it.

Mass Effect is probably the best sci-fi music I've ever heard. The music pretty much set the mood in that game with its use of synthesizers. Just pure amazing...

Tony P3253d ago

Good pieces. I just wish the article was better written.

ME is definitely one of my favourite soundtracks in recent times. Such a great sci-fi sound. I surprised myself by enjoying it a lot more than anything Star Wars has ever offered musically.

Two favs--

Top 5 Video Game Theme Songs.

If it was top 5 video game songs, I would have chosen MGS3's "Star Sailor - Way to Fall".

foxtheory3253d ago

Yes, it indeed makes the experience that much better. Have you listened to the end credits song (M4 Part 2)? It literally takes all of the epic sci-fi awesomeness of the entire game and adds a slight hardcore element to it that just works out so perfectly. But it sounds much better if you're listening to it during the actual credits after you beat the game instead of on the soundtrack. That's what makes the end credits song in any game/movie great, knowing that you beat/finished it adds that great feeling you can't get with the soundtrack.

Here's the link:

If you're talking about DMC, I'd say this one is the best:

I gotta say, it was one hell of a song to start the game with. Just the scene itself was pretty cool.

Yours is a good one, too. DMC surprisingly has a pretty decent soundtrack...

UnSelf3253d ago

@foxtheory omg i always loved this song, but i still think mine tops it. however this one is also worth a notable mention

the beginning sux hard but start listening at 2:44

foxtheory3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

I wouldn't say that it's one of the BEST video game songs, but it's great for DMC. The beginning sounds like the song When Worlds Collide by Powerman 5000. Perfect combat music for DMC4. And then the ending brings out the serious, save-the-world-and-don't-back- down side of the game, which let's admit, is very little in the series. The hardcore battles and the egotistical, rebellious attitude of Dante is where it's at!!!

I couldn't agree more. I just played ME1 over the summer, and now I'm psyched for ME2!!! I hope they keep the same style of music in it, too, although I'm positive that they'll use plenty of synthesizers!!

Tony P3253d ago

Yeah, I got into Faunts a bit because of that one. Was a really good fit to the original compositions. :]

Can't wait till the second game comes around.

ReservoirDog3163253d ago

Haha, I'm so glad I'm not a fan of God of War cause I'll always think of that whenever I hear it. That's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Poopface the 2nd3253d ago

The best videogame soundtrack ever is FF7. All the songs are great and are remembered by anyone who played the game. cosmo canyon seto costa del sol

Im gong to test my ps3 emulation and play FF7. If my ps3 was to break with the disk in it, id tear it to pieces to get my ff7 back.

Tony P3253d ago

FFVII? I'll respect your opinion of the music, but more objectively...? Heck no.

FFVI and VIII were both much, much better composed than VII. Uematsu himself admits this. It's a solid soundtrack, but hardly even the best of the franchise.

In all of VGM though, it's difficult to award "best" to a single game. Too many styles. That's like trying to award "best" to one of the millions of songs on the radio at any given time.

NeoBasch3253d ago

[CTRL+F] "Xenosaga: Episode II"

Poopface the 2nd3252d ago (Edited 3252d ago )

I hate JRPGs tho so I never played 6, and I got really bored of 8 because it wasnt nearly as good a game.

also dues ex has great music too.

Exoil3252d ago

In my opinion is of course the soundtrack for Silent Hill 2.

"Theme of Laura", "Promise", "Love Psalm". The list could go on and on!

Akira Yamaoka created his masterpiece right there!

I dont thnk so. Sorry for the disagreement :)

frjoethesecond3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Screw that. Halo = Okay mjolnir mix = awesome.

mistajeff3253d ago

Whether you like the game or not, Halo has a really good score. Gregorian plainchant in a video game?? That's damn risky, and they sure pulled it off. Whether people realize it or not, it's one of the key things that helps differentiate the game. I've played all the Halo games, I don't really like them, but I'll admit that I love the score. I think 2 is the best because of the massive Incubus instrumental (from before they started sucking), but ODST's noire-ish themes in the night-time sequences are a really good call, they help create the mood instead of simply fitting into the mood.

Tony P3253d ago

Yeah, the score has always been a constant high point of those games. The Halo theme itself is superb.

Alcon Caper3253d ago (Edited 3253d ago )

Kinda of disappointed with the exclusion of Angelo Badalamenti's soundtrack to Indigo Prophecy (Carla's Theme: It was amazing and he certainly added to the atmosphere of the game in a way that no other composer could have.

edit: I just read the part about epic themes, so I guess Indigo Prophecy doesn't count. They should reword the title to Epic Themes.

Infernostew3253d ago

Wow, I had no idea the music in Indigo Prophecy was done by Angelo Badalamenti. I love all his work with David Lynch and I was friends with his nephew in high school.

Alcon Caper3253d ago

Yeah, I first listened to his stuff in Mulholland Drive, which quickly became one of my favorite movie soundtracks. I was on the fence about trying Indigo Prophecy, but when I read that he did the music, that definitely pushed me over the edge.

Way to recognize! Bubbles!

Infernostew3253d ago

Bubbles back at ya! My favorite stuff of his is from the Twin Peaks tv series.
