Get ready to find out what the next generation should be like on a "next-generation" console.
"By now I figured we’d be using people who fought with weapons and without weapons in the same game." -Yoshimitsu has always had a sword in Tekken. And in Tekken 6 there are item moves. "So how come everything feels so static? Block, block attack...whoo hoo" -That's the whole point of fighting. Offense and defense. "Where’s that “Holy S***” factor?... It’s gone." -Nope it's not. Your wrong. "Why are they still using health bars?" -What a rediculously stupid question! "Are our characters not detailed enough to show exhaustion for weakness?" -Ok that would actually be a nice feature. This article is just full of fail.
-Yoshimitsu has always had a sword in Tekken. And in Tekken 6 there are item moves. Not exactly what I meant genius. Evidently you haven't played tekken because his sword is only in his move set.... duh Item moves "So how come everything feels so static? Block, block attack...whoo hoo" That's the whole point of fighting. Offense and defense. I aggree Buuuut. Does that mean we have to do it the same way ever since the days of our younger consoles? Which would you rather play tekken with it's blocking system or "contextual" moves, counters and blocking closer to what we see in dead fantasy? Sounds like a no-brainer right? Hhmmmm.... moving on. "Why are they still using health bars?" -What a rediculously stupid question! -spell check- ridiculously Ok this goes along with the exhaustion for characters. In movies or cutscenes or even in the dbz tv series.... did you need to see a health bar to know that Goku was weak and on the brink of death? Did his body language not speak for itself? Games have to bridge a gap and taking away the hud is inviteable for a more realistic form of "I'm getting my ass kicked". Let's think.... Hideo hinted at it at the end of MGS4.... "Where’s that “Holy S***” factor?... It’s gone." -Nope it's not. Your wrong. Yea it is gone.... When has a fighting game wowed (omg) you like Uncharted 2, or Killzone 2 when you first seen it or even after you've played it (and not just graphically)?.... Hhmmm it's been a while hasn't it? This is a generation of incredibly powerful consoles. Maybe you haven't realized that. "This article is just full of fail." Lol that's funny. Thank God you're not a game developer. I'd probably find your game in the 2 for .50 sale bin. Although I do respect your opinion. P.S. YOU FAIL EPICALLY
Wow. ok. I've been playing tekken since tekken 2. Sooo dont tell me i dont play much tekken. Ok you can't change tekken's blocking system because it wouldn't be the same. It would take away the "feel" of tekken. And its a stupid idea to try and mix tekken with dead fantasy. That will never happen. A health bar adds more intensity to the game. Its just too much fun when your health is nearly gone and you pull out those extra moves to k.o. your opponent. A better option would be a health bar/visual fatigue combonation. Why are you comparing a fighting game to an rpg and an fps? Those are different genres. Fighting is in a league of its own. Although it would be nice to see a fighting game with graphics like KZ2 or U2. And Tekken 6 wows me :) Hey I feel lucky I'm not a game developer because I have chosen to study to become a doctor instead. I see that as more beneficial to the world. For me gaming is just a hobby, not a profession. And thanks for respecting my opinion. I respect yours as well. I hope I offended you and your article too much lol P.S. -SPELL CHECK- AGREE :P
Its not the lack of innovation, Its the lack of "wow-factor".
Quite frankly I have to agree that so far, the only fighting game this generation that has even come close to being epically amazing is VF5. The sad truth of the matter is that SEGA is dragging their feet on releasing VF5: R on home consoles (Currently only in Japanese Arcades). VF5: R has the potential to set itself apart from the crowd (and this is coming from a huge tekken fan).
Fighting games need GOW context sensitive kills.
i agree with the article. they could and should be so much better by now. Kinda like RTS's. if you disagree then it is really because you like them how they are but it doesn't change the facts of the article.
it's still a 2D fighter, but the move sets and unique strategy required to play each character blows every fighting game i've ever played out of the water. I traded in SF4 after getting BB fyi :p
