An opinion peice on some of the reasons people may be going back to World of Warcraft after quitting for an extended period.
Haha it's true my brother recently went back to it! :P
i only came back once, then got bored again.
Same. It's almost sad to see a bunch of male characters trying to "court" a female character with free stuff.
never came back...got bored =/ not for everyone Just for the socially inept...
Or perhaps people have different tastes than you do? I am told you can play WoW and have a social life at the same time and like it!
i once say a fsjal (anticipation guy) image of that WoW kid that tried to shove the remote up his butt or something. LOL.
I didn't come back after I stopped It takes such a huge amount of time to accomplish anything interresting that it becomes one big waste of time.
kind of like all video games!
Played to level 60 way back and never looked back after quitting. Its an awful time sink (game is great). And the carrot on the stick effect all mmos have is old, really old... get gear so you can get better gear so that gear will allow you to get better gear... so that your guild will accept you have good enough gear to go to the uber epic awesomeness dungeon to get the best gear... then an expansion or more content comes and .. you get to do it all over again ;p Blizz is doing something right for the number of subscribers they have but mmos are not for me, you miss so many great games while addicted to them. Once you wake up from the addiction and start playing other games, you realize what ya been missing.
"You begin to think why it was you left the last time and consider maybe that problem was fixed in someway." That's almost always a trap ime. I fell for this with FFXI, CoH, and CoV. It's never changed in the way I want. I came to the conclusion that I don't like the genre itself.
Funny part is that I literally started playing again just 2 weeks ago after having quit for like the past year and a half. Mostly, I was bored and had way too much free time. But, I'm not playing as hardcore as I use to. I use to play like every day for hours and now it's more like once a week for like 2-4 hours and then I call it a day. Not sure I will ever get back into it "hardcore mode" like I use to be. The game is fun in spurts but then you do just sort of remember why you quit playing in the first place. I'm just leveling a Death Knight right now (ultra slowly I might add since I'm only play once a week for a little while) but they seem fun at least.
Don't think we're gonna get a lot of insight from a website/blog called totallywarcraft.com I sense some bias. Lol.
been to the World of Warcraft.
Never have, never will. Knew some folks at work that played this, and all they talked about virtual crap they collected in the game. Sounds very exciting. Not.
Never will a game like this have controll over my life. And you know, the day my father tossed out my WOW collection and expansions was the greatest day of my life. Sure i wasnt happy about it but it tought me a very important lesson in life. To not waste all your time playing a game thats playing with you or controlling you in a certain way to shut off everything els.
never been into mmo genre but had some friends whos marriages callapsed because too much time was spent on wow lol. I am 34 now and still love gaming daily but there is more fun to be had in the real world folks.
i'll never go bak, im playin aion :D
Being susceptible to addiction is a personal trait. It's really no problem to play WoW in a healthy manner, just like it's possible to drink alcohol without becoming a alcoholic.
