Microsoft aims for more 'Natal-like' evolutions

Microsoft wants to continue to evolve the 360 well after Natal is released, according to Microsoft Game Studios' head Phil Spencer.

"We effectively reinvented the Xbox once already when we rewrote the dashboard," Spencer told Develop.

"It's not about trying to sell consumers a new piece of hardware at the wrong time, it's about evolving the platform continuously. And we are going to find things, like Natal, that are hardware-related to also do that."

And i do want an Xbox 360, this, this Natal, isn't going to change my mind or many others, if games are going to work like, halo or gears, your going to need a controller!!!! OMG what a crazy idea lol

Oh well just hope they don't drop all other games for this other wise next year may be a bit quite for the real gamers guys :)

I like that first video.

It's got a lot of comments by idiots saying "it's fake obviously coz u can see dis..." - it's meant to be fake. It's meant to show you how retarded Natal really is for controlling existing games.

Look at the sheer variety of movements he had to perform. I doubt if Natal can even tell the difference between you walking on the spot "forwards" and walking on the spot "backwards". (See moonwalking, it can even fool a human into thinking you're making a "forward stepping motion") Basically, to add Natal retroactively into games would take too much effort to be feasible. And adding it into future FPSs, well you saw what he was doing. It would be impossible to aim. Whilst you move forward your hands are flailing about wildly - does this correspond to your view changing? How can you aim just a little bit if it's not sensitive to these massive movements?

As I've said before, I already have a perfect motion sensing controller. I only need to move my thumb just a little bit and it will detect its motion with unparalleled precision. It's a regular controller.

I mean, after Eye toy 2, the possibilities are endless!

But I'm holding my judgment. I think MS can do it right but I'm not sure if they will.

I love the idea of controlling my 360 like Minority Report, though.

"I love the idea of controlling my 360 like Minority Report"

That's what interests me the most about Natal. Just sit down on the couch and say "Xbox on" and it signs you in to Xbox Live with facial recognition. Move hands left, right, up or down to move around the menus.

If this works properly, everybody that owns a 360 will buy it just for that. Gaming, controller free would be a bonus. I'll be buying it. Maybe even a second one if it works on my pc.

Now I know why xbox owners pay $50 yearly to play on-line.

ArmrdChaos2899d ago

Where did you get this $200 price tag you mention. I don't recall any official pricing mentioned yet?

And then when you have to change disk on a bigger game.. you can just say "Disk Change" and the creepy little Milo kid will crawl out of your TV "the Ring" style and do it for you. LOL.. some talk about PS3 gamers being to lazy to change disk and yall are talking how great it will be to not have to hold a controller or even push a dang button to turn the thing on.. I dont know.. I just dont get it.. cool effect? Yes... but it will get old quick. I will wait and see if Natal is all that, which as of right now, I just cant see it. The wii was fun for 30 minutes till I realized my parents and my kids could do just as good as me with no skill required. Like throwing the ball as hard as I could in baseball only to see my son get the same speed barely even moving the dang thing. Then it just pissed me off. Not that I have to be the best cause I dont, and I dont mind losing and just love playing.. but if you learn a game is basically playing itself for you.. it ruins it for me. So for me to buy a 360, Natal will have to be great and ACCURATE. Same with PS3 Motion, which so far looks great and accurate.. but if its not.. I wont buy it either.

Project Failtal:

A project that makes the game 'control' you instead of you controlling the game. Pathetic.
